Mobile DPF Cleaner

Mobile DPF Cleaning around Wydra, North Yorkshire

Sorting the DPF is done at the car, not at a body shop. An engineer arrives at your place in Wydra, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

You'll be given a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean opening from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.

Written for the situation most drivers are in: the light on already, the car short for power, and the visit still to fix.

What to try when the DPF light shows

Not the unit, always. First thing to note. A number of faults put the same light on the same dash, which is why a visit begins with a diagnostic rather than with a clean.

It tells what you get with the motor between now and the appointment.

  • Vehicle still driving fine on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly sorts the filter without assistance.
  • That window has gone once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.
  • Stop planning long drives and get it looked at if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

Signs the motor has been sending you

Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for some time before it arrives:

  • less power, above all climbing uphill
  • the revs no longer climb the way they used to
  • fuel economy getting worse
  • silently, the stop/start gives up
  • smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell inside

None of that is conclusive alone. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is on as well.

Choked diesel particulate filters near Wydra, and the cause

For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the sort you get across a rural hamlet such as Wydra. A regeneration takes time and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to Kettlesing Felliscliffe Community Primary School, not on Wydra Lane at the morning rush, not on ten minutes to The Co-operative Food, and not on the dash to Ben Rhydding. The unburnt soot collects rather than clearing.

Where you sit does not help either. The A1(M) is under 15 miles from Wydra and Ripon is under 15 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that could clear the filter on its own.

The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer run

The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is. A long drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs pinned, no regeneration possible.

Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it holds up to a line. The filter requires treatment rather than driving once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode.

Cleaning a clogged diesel particulate filter in Wydra, North Yorkshire

Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Wydra

On your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can sit for a few hours: the job is done with the filter yet fitted on, which is the bit most people do not expect.

The ECU is read first, giving soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.

Then the treatment. A cleaning fluid is fed in through the access point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes required on badly clogged filters.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Wydra if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the live data checked once done.

Then a second check, proving the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

Cleaning cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • sensors, pressure, showing a blockage that is not real
  • EGR valves that hang open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever runs
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

That is what the first check is for. Where it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have settled up a penny.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it cut out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.

What DPF cleaning comes to around Wydra

Each visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, running the check and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it by phone, once the motor and its likely needs are established. Two separate things move it: what you run, and where you are — Wydra itself, across at Fewston, or further out across the HG postcode area.

If the scan counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the diagnostic and offered you the advice.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Wydra.

Andras was excellent. He arrived on schedule, was knowledgeable, professional and courteous and took care of our car. So far the clean seems to have worked and we hope it continues to so we can avoid the hugely expensive DPF replacement.

Rupert C.

Called to get DPf cleaned came out next day, very friendly and helpful did a good job, thanks Dave. Will definitely recommend and use again.

Neville P.

First class service from initial contact to last. Kieran, the engineer sent, was so knowledgeable and detailed in his explanations and paperwork. Very impressive.

Where we get to near Wydra, and what we clean

A single call-out service spans cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned in place rather than moved anywhere.

The same round that has our engineers on Wydra Lane most weeks takes in Wydra, Fewston, Bramelane and the villages beyond Blubberhouses. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring still from further out across North Yorkshire.

Wydra itself

Wydra is a small hamlet situated on the lakeside in North Yorkshire, with an elevation of around 195 metres. Wydra lies near the villages of Fewston and Fewston Bents, and is approximately 12.5 miles from the city of Ripon. Wydra has a population of around 218 people, predominantly living in detached houses.

Things Wydra drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough alone?
It can, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not set in. That means motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a quick trip to The Co-operative Food.
Roughly how long does it run?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which runs on.
How much does it come to across Wydra?
It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the number.
Must I be around in person?
The vehicle wants a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the road, monitored.
Getting to Wydra — how soon?
You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the HG area has open.
Will the filter be lifted off?
Done where it is, on this service, so no. We do not lift filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
The light reappears — then what?
Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Wydra.
