Wortwell, Norfolk: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a body shop. The technician arrives at your place in Wortwell and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody sets off until the number is fixed by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
Most people find us with the light on already, and the car low on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.
DPF light on? What happens next
The unit is not automatically what is wrong, and that leads. That light can come from a number of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a diagnostic and not with treatment.
The driving you manage in the meantime counts. That is the second thing.
- Amber light, vehicle even now driving fine — a long steady run can still sort it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- Vehicle already fallen into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not shift it now.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it checked.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
Late news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for weeks before it shows:
- falling off on power, particularly uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they always went
- the fuel use is poorer
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under acceleration
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Wortwell
Being a village, Wortwell produces just the driving a DPF manages the poorest. A regeneration wants the time and heat, and has not much: not on the school run to Alburgh With Denton Church of England Primary Academy, not on High Road at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Lidl, and not on the dash to Halesworth. Instead of burning away, the unburnt soot banks up.
Unless you have a regular cause to get out to the M11, over 50 miles from Wortwell, or across to Norwich under 15 miles away, weeks pass without a sustained drive. Geography is against you.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer run
Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. A long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power held down, revs held down, no regeneration available.
Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works right up to a line. The far side of that stage — limp mode — road work will not be enough, and the filter wants cleaning.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is cleaned in Wortwell
Nothing comes off the vehicle. That throws people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for a few hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are loosened second, by a cleaning fluid fed through the entry point on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is severely loaded, expect a second pass.
A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Wortwell; if not, in place where the vehicle waits, with the live data checked afterwards.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light put out, anything still showing written down. Both sets of figures arrive with you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
Where a clean is not the answer
Only one fault is answered by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever completes
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's purpose. When it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have paid anything.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no solution. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your own filter is cleaned in place and goes back into use.
Costs for DPF cleaning in Wortwell
Any visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, running the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Once we are told what you drive, and broadly what the filter will take, the number gets fixed over phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. What you own and where you are both shift it: Wortwell itself, across at Low Street, or farther out across the IP postcode area.
If the check counts cleaning out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the check and offered you the advice.
If the light returns inside that time, an engineer comes back out to Wortwell — the work carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
I can sing nothing but praise for DPF fixer from first initial contacted on Tuesday speaking to Christine organising the appointment to Liam coming out today to sort my daughters car out. The service these gentlemen provided is excellent, definitely recommend.

What we clean, and how far we go round Wortwell
A single on-site service takes in cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
Engineers are along High Road nearly every week, so Wortwell is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run takes in Low Street, Piccadilly Corner and the spots out past Homersfield. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call even from farther out around Norfolk.

Common questions on DPF cleaning around Wortwell
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Quickly enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Lidl and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit last long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is severely blocked.
- What does it come to in Wortwell?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for coming out that takes in the check and advice on what to do next. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Is it necessary for me to be present?
- Space for the vehicle to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive if you would sooner ride along.
- Can someone get to Wortwell soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the IP area has open.
- The filter — does it leave the car?
- Not on the on-site service — it is cleaned where it stands. And neither does lifting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer returning to Wortwell.
