Mobile DPF Cleaner

Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Woolwell, Devon

With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. A technician comes at your address in Woolwell, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.

Nobody sets off until the price is agreed on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.

The light is already on and the motor is low on power — that is how we usually come across people, and what this page is about.

DPF light on? What comes next

The filter is not necessarily what is wrong, and that goes first. A scan comes before all work, because that same dashboard light has several candidate faults behind it.

The motoring you do in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.

  • Worth a shot before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving normally, just one constant run, no cost.
  • Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the interior reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

The motor has been telling you already

Late news, the light. The symptoms usually grow for some time before it arrives:

  • pulling uphill, the power drops away
  • revs that will not rise the way they used to
  • fuel use turning worse
  • silently, the stop/start bows out
  • diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box

On its own, none of that is proof. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.

The reason diesel particulate filters choke around Woolwell

Being a residential suburb, Woolwell throws up precisely the driving a DPF handles least well. The school run to Bickleigh Down Church of England Primary School, Long Park Drive at a standstill at half past eight, five minutes to Lidl, the run to Bere Ferrers — none of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot load banks up.

Neither is a long way from Woolwell: under 50 miles to the M5, under 5 miles to Plymouth. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would scour a filter simply never gets made.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. The entire problem is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.

So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, right until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: cleaning is what will work, not more driving.

DPF cleaning for a blocked filter in Woolwell, Devon

DPF cleaning at the motor round Woolwell

The filter does not come off. That is the bit most people do not anticipate: the job is done with the DPF even now bolted to the vehicle, on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a few hours.

The ECU is read first, reporting soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a check of sensor readings, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.

Then the clean. A solution goes in through the entry point on that car and expands inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Where the filter is heavily blocked, plan on a second pass.

A regeneration is next, driving off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Woolwell, with you along, or it goes where the vehicle waits and the running data is verified once done.

Both reports are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second diagnostic is what verifies the change, clears the light and logs whatever is still open.

Where a clean is not the answer

Treatment cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, flagging a restriction that is not real
  • an EGR valve stuck open
  • AdBlue system problems
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

Which is why the diagnostic comes first. When one of those is the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has left already.

Hollowing the filter out is not a solution: without a working DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people look up, though nothing is exchanged — your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

Costs for DPF cleaning in Woolwell

A clean starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

No flat rate would be truthful, so the figure is fixed over the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you run: Woolwell itself, Bickleigh Down nearby, or further out within the PL postcode area.

You are not billed for a clean that the diagnostic says will not help. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge nonetheless applies.

If the light reappears inside that window, an engineer comes back out to Woolwell — the clean carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

Your fitter, Zac, came at the agreed time and did the work very efficiently outside our house. He explained everything fully and went with me to test drive the car to make sure everything was rectified. Very happy with everything. 10/10.

Jarlath B.

Needed the van urgently for work, they came first thing the next day, ran a full test before and found it didn't need a clean but was the temp sensors that have failed, gave some good advise and left. Quick, pleasant and honest to deal with.

Oliver J.

Great service! Engineer came to my address, was very polite and helpful, was honest about the problem I had with my car and gave me all the necessary information.

What we clean, and how far we travel near Woolwell

One on-site service covers private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than carried anywhere.

Nearly every week there is usually someone on Long Park Drive, so Woolwell hardly ever means a detour, and Bickleigh Down, Glenholt and the villages past Shaugh Prior come with it. Further out through Devon is even so worth phoning about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

What Woolwell drivers want to know about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?
If you get it early enough, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. That requires motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a short trip to Lidl.
How long does the visit last?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can take a second clean, which lengthens that.
What does it run to in Woolwell?
It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.
Must I be present in person?
Nobody expects you to stand with it — the motor only wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive instead.
When can someone get to Woolwell?
That depends on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is free across the PL area.
Does the filter come away from the motor?
It is treated where it sits, on the mobile service. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything something we do either way.
The light comes back — then what?
An engineer heads back out to Woolwell — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
