Woodstock, Pembrokeshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF happens at the car, not at a body shop. An engineer arrives at your door over in Woodstock, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
If the light is already on and the motor is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers end up here.
DPF light on? What happens next
It could not be the unit in the end. That is the first thing. A number of faults put the same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with cleaning.
It counts what you get with the motor between now and the appointment.
- Amber light, vehicle yet driving normally — a long constant run can yet clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you call anything.
- That window has shut once the motor has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not help now.
- Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the vehicle has been telling you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for a while before it appears:
- power dropping away, above all going uphill
- you see the revs stop short of where they once went
- fuel consumption getting worse
- the stop/start silently giving up
- the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
That is not conclusive by itself. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is showing too.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Woodstock, and the cause
Woodstock is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the least kind type for a DPF. A regeneration takes time and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on B4329 at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Morrisons, and not on the run to Clarbeston Road. The soot builds up rather than clearing.
The M4 lies under 50 miles from Woodstock, St Davids under 25 miles out, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, whole weeks slip past without the long steady run that empties a unit. Geography does not oblige.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it
The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. Power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can not happen — which is the whole catch, because a sustained drive works by triggering that regeneration.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is good advice, up until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that point: treatment is what will do it, not more driving.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done round Woodstock
Nothing comes off the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF sits fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a couple of hours.
The ECU is taken first, reporting soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and connected hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
A cleaning fluid after that goes in through the entry point on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Where the filter is severely blocked, allow for a second pass.
A regeneration comes next, burning off what the clean has loosened. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Woodstock, with you there, or it runs where the motor stands and the running data is checked afterwards.
Finally the check runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still showing noted. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not help:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, flagging a restriction that is not real
- EGR valves that jam open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting in the first place
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first check's whole job. If it turns out to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have settled up a penny.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.
DPF cleaning costs across Woodstock
Each visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it over phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are established. The vehicle moves it, and so does the location — Woodstock, Ambleston, or a spot farther out in the SA postcode area.
Where the scan says cleaning will not work, you are not billed for treatment. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.
The job comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Woodstock if the light comes back inside that period.
Diaz did a very great job. He gave a detail explanation on what to do after his work and in fact the car is back on its normal performance. Thank you mate.
What a fantastic company to deal with, so professional from start to finish and big credit to Dave. Thank you once again and definitely I gonna use your service in the future.
Great service from Nic. Arrived on time and dealt with the blocked DPF in my Mazda 6 2.2 diesel with ease. I received a clear report with advisories for my local garage to deal with, plus excellent advice to avoid further issues. Highly recommended.
Where we travel round Woodstock, and what we clean
A single on-site service takes in cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Woodstock is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are working B4329 nearly every week, and the same run covers Ambleston, Walton East and the places out past New Moat. Ring anyway from further out across Pembrokeshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you are given hangs on the calendar rather than how far away you are.
Woodstock itself
Woodstock is a small hamlet in Pembrokeshire, situated inland at an elevation of 179 metres. Woodstock lies near the villages of Wallis, Ambleston, and Walton East, and is approximately 16.6 miles from the city of St Davids. Woodstock is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its rural setting. Woodstock remains a quiet, residential community with a population of around 389 people.
Questions Woodstock drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- If you catch it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Morrisons and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit last long?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily clogged.
- The cost across Woodstock — what is it?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for the call-out that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Have I need to be around?
- No. The motor wants somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive instead.
- Travelling to Woodstock — how soon?
- That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is available across the SA area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- It is treated where it stands, on the mobile service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- And if the light returns?
- An engineer comes back out to Woodstock — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
