Before the light, what the motor was telling you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for some time. It is belated news:
- climbing uphill, the power drops away
- an engine whose revs will not pull as before
- the fuel consumption is down
- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. The light beside them suggests a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog round Woodbridge
