Wistow, Cambridgeshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. Your vehicle isn't taken anywhere and the filter does not leave it. A technician turns up at your address across Wistow, treats the diesel particulate filter on the motor and carries out a DPF regeneration.
Reckon on the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, agreed by the phone before anyone leaves.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the vehicle low on power. That is the situation this page is written for.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the DPF, always. First thing to say. Several faults put the same light on the identical dash, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with treatment.
The motoring you get in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.
- Amber light, car yet driving normally — a long even run can even now sort it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you call anything.
- Vehicle already gone into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the stage to stop arranging long drives and book it in.
What the car has been telling you
Symptoms have usually been building for a while before the light so much as arrives. Belated news, in other words:
- less power, particularly pulling uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- the fuel use is worse
- a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.
The explanation diesel particulate filters choke around Wistow
Being a village, Wistow throws up precisely the motoring a DPF handles least well. A regeneration takes the time and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to Upwood Primary Academy, not on Church Street at half eight, not on a few minutes to Tesco, and not on the hop to Huntingdon. What should burn away stays behind.
Neither is a long way from Wistow: under 10 miles to the A1(M), under 15 miles to Peterborough. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the journey that would scour a filter hardly ever happens.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode is. A long drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration available.
So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is good advice, until it stops being. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter wants a clean rather than road work.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned across Wistow
The filter does not budge. That is the detail most drivers do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF still bolted to the vehicle, on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the car can wait for a while.
Nothing is started until other faults are eliminated. That involves a scan first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware.
Then the treatment. A cleaning solution goes in through the entry point on that motor and expands inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Where the filter is badly blocked, allow for a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Wistow; if not, in place where the car stands, with the live data read once done.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still showing. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are kept.
What a DPF clean will not cure
One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system problem
- a regeneration that simply never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's job. If it turns out to be one of those, you are let know before any work gets going rather than after you have handed over for it.
Two things more worth noting. Leaving the filter gutted is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and returned into use.
Costs for DPF cleaning across Wistow
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it on the phone, once the car and its expected needs are established. A pair of things change it: what you run, and where you are — Wistow itself, out at Little Raveley, or further out across the PE postcode area.
Treatment that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the check was run and the advice was given.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to Wistow.
Amazing service! Had a DPF issue (I don't do short journeys) and BMW wanted £3333.73 for a new DPF along with ancillary components. DPF Fixer charged £390. Absolutely amazing service. Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable! I would definitely recommend them to anyone with a DPF issue.
Liam was excellent, he did a full clean, but was not satisfied and completed it twice more until the readings were to his satisfaction. Pre and post clean customer service also commendable. Vehicle is now back to full health and driving well.
DPF Fixer thank for sorting my ford transit did a great job like you said like you would. Liam was great and did a good job very confident in him self. Great job many thanks. John.
What we clean, and how far we go around Wistow
Whatever it is — car, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the one on-site service applies, and the filter never quits it.
Technicians are along Church Street nearly every week, so Wistow is rarely a detour, and the same run takes in Little Raveley, Great Raveley and the spots out past Upwood. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out around Cambridgeshire is still worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Things Wistow drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- Early enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes to Tesco and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly clogged filter can require cleaning twice, which runs on.
- What does it come to in Wistow?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The car needs a spot to stand for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would sooner come along.
- How soon can someone travel to Wistow?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the calendar. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the PE area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. We never lift filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
- The light returns — then what?
- An engineer comes back out to Wistow — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
