- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- the revs no longer climb the way they used to
- fuel consumption getting worse
- the stop/start silently giving up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
None of that is proof on its own. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.
