Windmill Hill, Kent: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a garage. Your motor will not be taken away and the filter doesn't leave it. An engineer comes at your place over in Windmill Hill, treats the diesel particulate filter on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is fixed over the phone before anyone sets off.
If the light is already on and the motor is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers get to us.
Your DPF light is showing — what next?
It could not be the filter whatsoever. That is the opening thing. A diagnostic happens before the treatment, because that same panel light has several candidate faults behind it.
How the car is driven in the meantime counts too.
- A long steady run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the car drives normally. Costs nothing at all, so try that before calling.
- That window has shut once the car has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.
- Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the vehicle has been telling you
Symptoms have usually been building for some time before the light ever shows. Belated news, in other words:
- falling off on power, particularly uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
- consumption that is worse than before
- a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
That is not evidence alone. With the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.
What blocks diesel particulate filters near Windmill Hill
For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you get across a rural hamlet such as Windmill Hill. The school run to Holywell Primary School, Wallbridge Lane at a crawl at the morning rush, five minutes to Tesco, the dash to Rainham (Kent) — nothing of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. The soot load collects rather than burning away.
Save when you have a routine need to get out to the M2, under 3 miles from Windmill Hill, or out to Southend-on-Sea under 15 miles away, entire weeks pass without a long unbroken run. Geography is unhelpful.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. A proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.
So the usual advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, until it stops being. Beyond that point — limp mode — driving will not be enough, and the filter needs cleaning.
DPF cleaning at the motor round Windmill Hill
Most owners do not anticipate this bit: the filter remains. The job happens with the DPF still bolted to the car — on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can wait for a while.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That involves a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected components.
Then comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access point, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration cannot. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to take doing twice.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. Stay with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Windmill Hill. Drop it and the regeneration is done in place, with running data checked once it is done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light put out, anything still showing noted. Both sets of figures arrive with you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
Where cleaning is not the solution
One thing is what cleaning answers — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- pressure or temperature sensors flagging a block that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- the AdBlue system failing
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration running at all
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Which is why the scan comes first. Where it turns out to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have settled up for it.
A couple more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your existing filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.
What DPF cleaning runs to in Windmill Hill
A call-out charge applies whatever happens, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice given. The clean itself opens from £299.
Once we are told what you drive, and about what the filter will want, the price gets agreed by phone. A single price for all would not be honest. The motor changes it, and so does the location — Windmill Hill, Lower Rainham, or somewhere otherwise out in the ME postcode area.
If the scan counts a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer heads back out to Windmill Hill — the job carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Turned up early, was very respectful, helpful, quick and thorough. He explained everything to me, gave me clear instructions on what to do next and advised on car care after the fix. My car is now running like it's brand new!
Had my cars dpf cleaned 3 days ago and warning light has not come on. Its a little early to tell if its fixed, but so far so good.
Excellent service from mobile DPF cleaner. Booked around lunchtime, then a same day service, albeit quite late in the evening by the time the mechanic arrived! However, he got the job done, and advised me of what else was needed to ensure that I didn't have any recurrence.
Where we get to around Windmill Hill, and what we clean
The filter is done in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
The same trip that keeps engineers on Wallbridge Lane most weeks picks up Windmill Hill, Lower Rainham, Moor Street and the villages beyond Upchurch. Further out through Kent is even so worth a call — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between one day and the next.

Questions Windmill Hill drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- If you catch it early enough, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. Ten minutes to Tesco and back will not be enough; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
- How long does the visit run?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes require a second pass, which extends it.
- How much does it cost in Windmill Hill?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for coming out that takes in the check and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we price on the phone.
- Is it essential for me to be present?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive instead.
- Coming to Windmill Hill — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the ME area.
- Is the filter taken off the vehicle?
- Not on the on-site service — it is cleaned where it is. We will not take filters off or fit them back on, either way.
- The light reappears — then what?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Windmill Hill.
