Before the light, what the car was telling you
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been building for some time:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull like they did
- the fuel consumption is down
- the stop/start silently giving up
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
That is not proof by itself. The light beside them indicates a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Whitewall Corner
