Symptoms have generally been mounting for weeks before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:
- power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
- you find the revs fall short of where they always went
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
None of that is evidence by itself. The light beside them suggests a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog round Wern-olau
