Mobile DPF Cleaning around Wendy, Cambridgeshire
The car sits where it is — on-site DPF cleaning comes to it. Your vehicle isn't taken off and the filter does not come off. A fitter comes at your door across Wendy, treats the diesel particulate filter on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody leaves until the figure is agreed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the vehicle low on power. That is the situation this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What next?
The filter is not automatically what is wrong, and that goes first. That light can follow a number of faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a scan and not with treatment.
How the car is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Vehicle even now driving fine on an amber light — have a go at a long steady run first. It costs zero and often shifts the filter without assistance.
- Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not reach it now.
- Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
What the vehicle has been showing you
By the time the light shows, things have normally been deteriorating for weeks. It is last news:
- going uphill, the power drops away
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- fuel economy going worse
- without a word, the stop/start gives up
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
That is not proof on its own. The light with them suggests a full filter.
Clogged diesel particulate filters round Wendy, and the why
Being a rural hamlet, Wendy produces just the motoring a DPF handles least well. The school run to Bassingbourn Primary School, South View at a halt at half past eight, a few minutes to Tesco Extra, the run to Meldreth — none of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot builds up.
The M11 sits under 10 miles from Wendy, Cambridge under 15 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way often, full weeks pass without the sustained run that scours a filter. Geography does not help.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it
What limp mode comes down to is the motor defending itself. The entire catch is that a long drive works by starting a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.
Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it works right up to a line. The filter wants a clean rather than road work once the car has slipped into limp mode.
The car stays in place for call-out DPF cleaning round Wendy
The filter does not come off. That is the detail most drivers do not anticipate: the job is done with the DPF still fixed to the vehicle, on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can sit for a while.
The ECU is interrogated first, reporting soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are loosened second, by a cleaning solution passed through the access port on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
A regeneration follows, clearing what the clean has loosened. Come with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Wendy. Drop it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with running data read once it is done.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where treatment is not the solution
Cleaning cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor reporting a block that is not there
- the EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system fault
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration completing whatsoever
- oil coming through the filter from a worn turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. If one of those turns out to be the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Two things more worth noting. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a solution — a vehicle without a functioning DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
Figures for DPF cleaning in Wendy
A call-out charge applies whatever the outcome, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. The clean itself opens from £299.
The number is settled on the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be honest. What you run and where you are both shift it: Wendy itself, over at Shingay, or farther out within the SG postcode area.
Cleaning that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so stands.
If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer comes back out to Wendy — the clean carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Your fitter, Zac, came at the agreed time and did the work very efficiently outside our house. He explained everything fully and went with me to test drive the car to make sure everything was rectified. Very happy with everything. 10/10.
Really good service. Everything explained clearly. Pointed out some other engine issues to check out which was very helpful. Expensive compared to other companies but with the 28 day warranty I felt happy to pay to get the best service. Couldn't fault the engineer he was excellent.
Dan and Rob attended to my vehicle. I was kept informed prior to their arrival. When they arrived they analysed my car and pointed out the faults. They did the job in just over an hour and advised me on post cleaning tips. I thought DPF service was very professional.
Where we get to round Wendy, and what we clean
The filter is treated in place on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Our engineers are along South View nearly every week, so Wendy is rarely a detour, and the same run covers Shingay, Whaddon and the villages out past Croydon. Further out through Cambridgeshire is even so worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Questions Wendy drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- It may, provided you get it early and limp mode has not begun. That calls for motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a brief trip to Tesco Extra.
- How long does the visit take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely blocked filter can need cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Around Wendy, what does it come to?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
- Is it necessary for me to be there?
- Space for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration is done as a watched drive.
- Coming to Wendy — how soon?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is available across the SG area.
- Does the filter leave the motor?
- Treated where it is, on this service, so no. We never get filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
- The light reappears — then what?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Wendy.
