Symptoms have usually been building for some time before the light even appears. Last news, in other words:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- revs that will not climb the way they always did
- worse fuel use
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. The light with them points at a blocked filter.
