Upper Street, Norfolk: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we come to the vehicle. A technician comes at your place in Upper Street, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the vehicle, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, settled by the phone before anyone travels.
The light is on already and the car is down on power — that is how we usually meet people, and what this page deals with.
DPF light on? What to do
Not the filter, necessarily. First thing to note. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — a number of faults show up as the same warning.
The motoring you manage in the meantime counts. That is the second thing.
- Vehicle even now driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly shifts the filter without help.
- Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
- Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the motor was warning you
Symptoms have normally been building for some time before the light ever shows. Belated news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they always did
- economy that is worse than it was
- a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
- the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
The cause diesel particulate filters choke around Upper Street
For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you get in a village such as Upper Street. The school run to St John's Community Primary School and Nursery, New Lane at a halt at the morning rush, five minutes to Roys, the run to Hoveton & Wroxham — nothing of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The soot builds up rather than burning away.
The M11 stands over 50 miles from Upper Street, Norwich under 10 miles off, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that scours a unit. Geography does not oblige.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
What limp mode means is the motor protecting itself. With power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter needs cannot happen at all. That counts, because triggering one is precisely what a long run does.
The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. Beyond that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter needs treatment.
The car stays where it is for mobile DPF cleaning in Upper Street
Most people do not expect this bit: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF still bolted to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a few hours.
Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That requires a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts.
A solution then is fed in through the access point on that motor, spreading inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. A second pass is sometimes needed on severely clogged filters.
What the clean has lifted is then cleared by a regeneration. Stay with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Upper Street. Park it and the regeneration runs statically, with live data read once it is done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light put out, anything still open logged. Both sets of figures reach you by email, so the numbers are on record.
What a DPF clean will not touch
Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, showing a blockage that is not real
- the EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running whatsoever
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
The first check is there for exactly that. You are told before any work gets going, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.
A couple more worth knowing. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is treated in place and sent back into use.
What DPF cleaning comes to around Upper Street
The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.
The number is fixed by the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be straight. What you own and where you are both change it: Upper Street itself, out at Hoveton, or further out across the NR postcode area.
If the check rules a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still applies.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Upper Street if the light returns inside the period.
Recently had the DPF cleaned by Liam. Good communication throughout, and he clearly answered all questions. The van is now up and running nicely.
Excellent service from original phone conversation with Blake, then the engineer was in contact with regards his arrival. He was very professional and polite and keep me informed of all the tests he carried out. Highly recommend.
Lad who came out to me at home was friendly talked me through everything did a diagnostics test and advised on a new sensor for dpf everything at the minute seems fine and van drives so much better without any faults.
The vehicles we clean and the area we reach around Upper Street
The filter is treated in place on all of them: cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
The same round that has technicians on New Lane most weeks takes in Upper Street, Hoveton, Butchers Common and the villages beyond Horning. Even further out through Norfolk is even so worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

Things Upper Street drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- If you spot it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it takes — not ten minutes to Roys and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily blocked filter can take cleaning twice, which adds time.
- What does it run to around Upper Street?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the number, so we quote on the phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- Space for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- Can someone come to Upper Street soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is available across the NR area.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- It is treated where it is, on the on-site service. And neither does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Upper Street.
