Mobile DPF Cleaning across Uplands and Swansea
Sorting the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a workshop. Your vehicle is not taken off and the filter does not leave it. An engineer comes at your door across Uplands, treats the diesel particulate filter on the car and carries out a DPF regeneration.
Nobody leaves until the figure is settled by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Written for the position most drivers are in: the light on already, the vehicle struggling for power, and the job still to book.
DPF light on? What to do
First thing: it is not necessarily the unit. Cleaning is not where a visit opens. A diagnostic is — a number of faults appear as the same signal.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then counts.
- Worth a shot before you call anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one steady run, no charge.
- That window has shut once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
- Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.
The motor has been telling you already
By the time the light shows, things have generally been going wrong for a while. It is last news:
- falling off on power, above all uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- worse fuel economy
- silently, the stop/start packs in
- the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Uplands
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the kind you get in a residential suburb such as Uplands. Nothing of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Gwydr Mews barely moving at the morning rush, a few minutes to Liqun Chinese Supermarket, the run to Swansea. The soot that should clear banks up instead.
Geography does not help either. The M4 is under 5 miles from Uplands and Swansea is under 3 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, entire weeks go by without the sustained run that might empty the filter by itself.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. Pulling power is capped, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can no longer run — which is the real problem, because a sustained drive works by triggering that regeneration.
So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, until the day it is not. The filter needs treatment rather than road work once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done in Uplands
Nothing comes off the motor. That throws people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for two hours or so.
Nothing is started until other faults are ruled out. That requires a diagnostic first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts.
Then the treatment. A solution is fed in through the entry point on that car and spreads inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.
What the clean has loosened is then burned off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Uplands; if not, on the spot where the vehicle sits, with the running data verified after.
Then a second scan, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not fix
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment fixes. It will not reach:
- a pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve held open
- an AdBlue system problem
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration running whatsoever
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. Where one of those proves the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands already.
Hollowing the filter out is not a solution: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the phrase people type in, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is cleaned in place and returned into use. Two more worth knowing.
Costs for DPF cleaning around Uplands
A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice given. The clean itself starts from £299.
No single flat rate would be truthful, so the price is agreed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The car moves it, and so does the location — Uplands, Cwm Gwyn, or anywhere otherwise out in the SA postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says cleaning will not work, you are not billed for cleaning. What still stands is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was done and the advice was offered.
If the light returns inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Uplands — the clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
A very efficient service by the 2 men that came to me today. It didn't take too long, very professional and i'm so pleased, thank you, Anita Robertson-Wynne.
Prompt service from Liam who took 1 hour to discover the problem and advise accordingly, with no need to have a new DPF which was quoted at £1600 from Mazda. Weight off my mind, many thanks.
Excellent service. Were able to come out the same day that I called. Both the person who answered my call and the engineer Dave were friendly and very knowledgeable about dpfs. My van has been running great since.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover around Uplands
Cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done in place rather than taken anywhere.
Engineers are along Gwydr Mews nearly every week, so Uplands is seldom a special trip, and the same run covers Cwm Gwyn, Sketty and the villages out past Waunarlwydd. Call anyway from even further out around Swansea. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you get comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

Questions Uplands drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- If you spot it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a sustained run at motorway speed, not five minutes to Liqun Chinese Supermarket and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes require a second pass, which extends it.
- How much does it come to around Uplands?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; cleaning itself starts from £299. Quoting is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both shift the price.
- Have I have to be present?
- No. The vehicle needs somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would rather come along.
- How soon can someone get to Uplands?
- That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the SA area has open.
- The filter — does it come off the motor?
- It is treated where it stands, on the on-site service. Nor does getting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- The light comes back — then what?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Uplands.
