Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Union Mews, Greater London
With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. No garage, no filter coming off. A technician travels to your address in Union Mews, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone departs, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
If the light is showing and the motor is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most drivers end up here.
The DPF light is on. What now?
First thing: it is not always the filter. That light can arise from plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a check and not with cleaning.
How the motor is run in the meantime matters too.
- Worth a try before you call anything: amber light, motor driving normally, just one even run, no outlay.
- That window has closed once the motor has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not get there now.
- Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been showing you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually grow for some time before it appears:
- going uphill, the power falls off
- the revs no longer climb the way they used to
- fuel use that is worse than before
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. Next to the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Union Mews
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the type you get in a neighbourhood such as Union Mews. The school run to Larkhall Primary Campus, Union Road at a halt at the morning rush, a few minutes to Iceland, the hop to Clapham High Street — none of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Soot that should burn off banks up instead.
Unless you have a regular need to drive out to the M4, under 10 miles from Union Mews, or out to Westminster under 3 miles away, whole weeks go by without a long unbroken stint. Geography is unhelpful.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. With output held down and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs will not run at all. That tells, because setting off one is just what a motorway run does.
The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sensible, up until it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter requires treatment rather than more driving.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the car stands across Union Mews
The filter does not come off. That is the bit most people do not expect: the job is done with the DPF yet fitted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a couple of hours.
Nothing is started until other faults are eliminated. That means a check first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware.
A cleaning solution after that is fed in through the access point on that vehicle, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. A second pass is sometimes required on heavily loaded filters.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Union Mews; if not, statically where the vehicle waits, with the running data verified after.
Then a second scan, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are kept.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that hardly ever starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo failure, with oil getting into the filter
The first scan is there for precisely that. You are warned before all work starts, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning charges around Union Mews
Each visit takes a call-out charge — coming out to you, making the booking, running the diagnostic and passing on the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it on the phone, once the car and its expected needs are clear. A pair of things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Union Mews itself, out at Brixton, or otherwise out across the SW postcode area.
Where the check says treatment will not do it, you are not charged for cleaning. The call-out charge even so applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.
If the light comes back inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Union Mews — the work includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Engineer was very informative and polite, my car was fixed and I can only assume it will be ok in the future. Good service from this company.
Dan was fabulous and courteous. He did mention before the clean that the DPF was nearly empty and it was up to me still go ahead with the clean. The clean was performed and the number did improve. Great advice and prompt service. Highly recommended.
Atilla went out of his way to diagnose and fix my recurring Dpf issues. Explained everything at fault and remedies, as well as having a chat despite it being late. What a nice guy he was, more than happy with the service DPF Fixers provide.
The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover near Union Mews
Cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles — one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
Technicians are along Union Road nearly every week, so Union Mews is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run covers Brixton, South Lambeth and the places out past Richmond. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call still from farther out through Greater London.

Things Union Mews drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the car has not dropped into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a long stretch, rather than a brief trip to Iceland.
- The visit lasts how long?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
- How much does it run to in Union Mews?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. The vehicle and your address both shift the figure, so we price on the phone.
- Have I have to be there?
- Space for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration is done as a supervised drive.
- Can someone come to Union Mews soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the SW area has available.
- Is the filter removed from the motor?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it is. We do not lift filters off or put them back on, whichever way.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Union Mews.
