Mobile DPF Cleaning around Uig, Argyll and Bute
Cleaning the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a body shop. An engineer comes at your place over in Uig, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Nobody sets off until the figure is fixed over the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the vehicle short of power. That is exactly what this page is written for.
What to check when the DPF light is on
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A diagnostic comes before the treatment, because that same dash light has a number of candidate faults behind it.
It counts what you manage with the motor between now and the appointment.
- A long even run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the car runs fine. Costs nothing, so try that before booking.
- Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
- Get it checked rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the car has been warning you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been deteriorating for weeks. It is last news:
- falling off on power, particularly uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they always went
- the fuel use is worse
- stop/start silently packing in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell inside
None of that is evidence alone. It is a fair bet the filter is loaded once the light is on as well.
The explanation diesel particulate filters clog around Uig
Being a rural hamlet, Uig produces just the driving a DPF manages the poorest. Run through a normal week: the local primary school and home, A815 at a halt before half nine, a quick trip to The Co-operative Food, a hop to Garelochhead. Nothing there runs long enough or runs hot enough to see through a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot load banks up.
Neither is far from Uig: under 25 miles to the M8, under 50 miles to Glasgow. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the journey that would clear a filter hardly ever comes.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. A sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.
So the usual advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until the day it is not. In limp mode you are past that stage: treatment is what will help, not more driving.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the car stands across Uig
Nothing leaves the car. That catches out people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can sit for a couple of hours.
A check goes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated components, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is cleaned.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid is injected through the access port on that car and spreads inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Where the filter is badly loaded, plan on a second pass.
What the clean has lifted is then burned off by a regeneration. Ride along with the car and it turns into a monitored drive out of Uig. Park it and the regeneration goes statically, with real-time data verified once it is done.
Then a second check, verifying the change, clearing the warning light and listing anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not touch
Treatment fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor reporting a block that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo problems, with oil getting into the filter
That is what the first check is for. You are told before any work begins, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into work.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Uig
Every visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We settle it by phone, once the car and its likely needs are clear. Two things move it: what you run, and where you are — Uig itself, over at Tom nan Ragh, or otherwise out in the PA postcode area.
Treatment that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, did the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Uig if the light comes back inside the time.
Quick and easy to book, arrived same day, not had an issue since the clean was complete (been a month now) - would recommend.
I RANG DPP FIXER THEY CALLED BACK WITHIN. MINUTES ORGANISED FOR THE NEXT DAY AND GUY TURNED UP AT THE APPOINTED TIME CLEANED DPP TOOK 1HR VERY PLEASED WITH SERVICE.
An excellent service my mechanic was Ashley a perfect gentleman and extremely thorough throughout, the procedure that took 90mins to resolve the issue of a "full" DPF clean, which was totally successful.
Where we get to near Uig, and what we clean
A single call-out service covers private cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is done on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
Our engineers are along A815 week in week out, so Uig is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run covers Tom nan Ragh, Clachaig and the spots out past Kilmun. Further out around Argyll and Bute is nonetheless worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between this day and the next.

Things Uig drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Quickly enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Fifteen minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
- Roughly how long does it last?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes require a second pass, which lengthens it.
- What does it run to around Uig?
- Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Do I have to be there?
- A spot for the motor to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Preferring to be there is fine: the regeneration then is done out on the road, monitored.
- Coming to Uig — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is available across the PA area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- Not on the on-site service — it is cleaned where it stands. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Uig.
