The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been growing for a while:
- power dropping away, above all going uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as before
- fuel economy getting worse
- stop/start silently giving up
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration
None of that is conclusive alone. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Why diesel particulate filters choke round Tynewydd
