Mobile DPF Cleaning in Tyla and Monmouthshire
The motor stays where it is — mobile DPF cleaning travels to it. Your motor is not taken away and the filter does not budge. A technician comes at your door over in Tyla, clears the diesel particulate filter on the motor and runs a DPF regeneration.
You'll have a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
If the light is on already and the vehicle is short of power, this page is yours. That is how most owners get to us.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the DPF, necessarily. First thing to say. That light can follow several faults, not merely one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with treatment.
It matters what you do with the vehicle between now and the visit.
- Amber light, vehicle yet driving as normal — a long steady run can even now clear it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for weeks before it appears:
- climbing uphill, the power tails off
- you see the revs never reach where they used to go
- consumption that is worse than it used to be
- without a word, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. Next to the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.
What chokes diesel particulate filters around Tyla
Tyla is a small village, and the motoring that goes with one is the worst kind for a DPF. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on Heol Bedd-Dyn-hir at the morning rush, not on ten minutes to Waitrose, and not on the dash to Abergavenny. The unburnt soot banks up rather than clearing.
Save when you have a standing need to get out to the M4, under 25 miles from Tyla, or over to Newport under 25 miles away, whole weeks pass without a sustained stint. Geography is against you.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
The car is looking after itself, which is what limp mode is. Output is limited, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter wants can not run — which is the entire difficulty, because a long drive works by starting that regeneration.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — until the moment it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter needs treatment rather than more driving.
The vehicle stays where it is for on-site DPF cleaning round Tyla
Nothing leaves the motor. That surprises people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a few hours.
The ECU is read first, showing soot load by percent and by mass, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.
A cleaning fluid next is fed in through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. A second pass is sometimes required on badly loaded filters.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Tyla; if not, in place where the vehicle waits, with the live data verified afterwards.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still open written down. Both read-outs arrive with you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not cure
One thing is what a clean fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- temperature or pressure sensors flagging a blockage that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- the AdBlue system failing
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
- oil working through the filter from a worn turbo
That is what the first scan is for. If it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have settled up anything.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a functioning DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the phrase people search for, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Tyla
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that comes with it.
Once we have what you own, and roughly what the filter will take, the figure gets settled by phone. A single price for everyone would not be straight. The motor shifts it, and so does the postcode — Tyla, Gilwern, or somewhere otherwise out in the NP postcode area.
A clean that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. What still holds is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the diagnostic was done and the advice was offered.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Tyla.
Very nice young gentleman he did a good job and his advise was noted and issues that he picked up will be looked in to in the coming weeks.
The engineer Andrea's was very efficient. Nothing was a problem. I don't think my van has driven so well since I have had it. Very pleased. Thank you.
Very friendly polite operative who arrived on time messaged me to say he was here. Told me there wasn't a fault with the DPF so there would be no charge gave me a few suggestions on what it might be so will check those out. Thanks Chris.
What we clean, and how far we travel around Tyla
One mobile service takes in cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than carried anywhere.
Most weeks there is usually someone on Heol Bedd-Dyn-hir, so Tyla seldom means a detour, and Gilwern, Pen-y-bont and the villages past Maesygwartha are on the way. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone still from even further out across Monmouthshire.

What Tyla drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Sometimes, if you get it early and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it needs — not fifteen minutes or so to Waitrose and back.
- About how long does it take?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.
- What does it run to around Tyla?
- Cleaning begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the number.
- Is it essential for me to be around?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the car only requires space to wait for a couple of hours. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- When can someone travel to Tyla?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is free across the NP area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- Not on the on-site service — it is done where it sits. We do not lift filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
- The light reappears — then what?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Tyla.
