Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you
The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:
- power dropping away, particularly pulling uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they used to
- fuel consumption turning worse
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. The light with them points at a full filter.
