The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been building for some time:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they once went
- the fuel consumption is worse
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
On its own, none of that is conclusive. With the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.
Why diesel particulate filters choke near Trevarren
