The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have normally been growing for weeks:
- less power, especially going uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they used to
- fuel economy going worse
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Trenance
