Tregarth, Gwynedd: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. Your motor will not be taken anywhere and the filter will not leave it. An engineer turns up at your door in Tregarth, clears the diesel particulate filter on the vehicle and performs a DPF regeneration.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is settled on the phone before anyone sets off.
Most people find us with the light already on, and the vehicle short of power. That is the position this page is meant for.
What to try when the DPF light shows
The unit is not necessarily what is wrong, and that comes first. That light can come from several faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with treatment.
It counts what you get with the vehicle between now and the visit.
- A long steady run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the motor goes as normal. Costs nothing at all, so attempt that before booking.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Stop booking long drives and get it seen to if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
Symptoms have generally been growing for a while before the light so much as shows. Belated news, in other words:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- you find the revs stop short of where they used to go
- the fuel use is worse
- stop/start quietly giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. The light beside them suggests a loaded filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters clog round Tregarth
Being a coastal village, Tregarth throws up exactly the driving a DPF handles least well. The school run to the local primary school, Hen Durnpike at a crawl at half past eight, a few minutes to Sainbury's On The Go, the run to Bangor (Gwynedd) — not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning away.
Unless you have a regular cause to get out to the Moreton Spur, under 50 miles from Tregarth, or over to Bangor under 5 miles away, whole weeks pass without a sustained drive. Geography is unhelpful.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it
Limp mode is the car defending itself. Output is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can no longer complete — which is the real difficulty, because a long drive works by starting that regeneration.
Sound advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: treatment is what will do it, not more miles.
The motor stays where it is for on-site DPF cleaning round Tregarth
Most people do not anticipate this detail: the filter stays put. The job takes place with the DPF yet bolted to the car — on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a while.
A check goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are cleared before a thing is cleaned.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never move are freed after that, by a solution put through the access point on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Severely blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has loosened. Ride along with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Tregarth. Drop it and the regeneration goes statically, with running data checked once it is done.
A second check confirms the change, puts out the warning light and notes anything still open. Both sets of figures are emailed, so you have the before and after figures on record.
What a DPF clean will not fix
One thing is what a clean cures — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- an AdBlue system problem
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running at all
- oil working through the filter from a failing turbo
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. Where it is found to be one of those, you are warned before any work begins rather than after you have handed over a penny.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets looked up as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is treated in place and goes back into service.
DPF cleaning charges in Tregarth
Any visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, running the check and passing on the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
No flat rate would be truthful, so the figure is agreed over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The motor shifts it, and so does the postcode — Tregarth, Sling, or anywhere farther out in the LL postcode area.
Where the scan says treatment will not help, you are not charged for treatment. What still stands is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was run and the advice was passed on.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Tregarth.

Incredibly prompt arrival, the gentleman didn't want a brew at all he just got on with the job in hand. I was impressed with the lack of mess left behind, Definitely recommend them.
Dan came out on time, did the job perfectly and explained each step of the process clearly to me, along the way; with tips on how to prevent any future DPF cloggages. This is a reliable company, and judging by Dan, with great, reliable technicians! Thanks Dan!
The vehicles we clean and the patch we take in round Tregarth
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Tregarth is seldom a special trip: engineers are along Hen Durnpike most weeks, and the same run covers Sling, Hen-durnpike and the villages out past Bryn Eglwys. Call anyway from farther out around Gwynedd. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the date you are given hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Tregarth drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Sainbury's On The Go and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
- About how long does it last?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- What does it come to in Tregarth?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- The car requires a spot for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Travel along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a watched drive.
- How soon can someone get to Tregarth?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the LL area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- Treated where it sits, on this service, so no. We will not lift filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
- The light comes back — then what?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Tregarth.
