Signs the car has been sending you
By the time the light appears, things have usually been deteriorating for some time. It is late news:
- tailing off on power, above all uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as they should
- fuel economy going worse
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- the cabin stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
Why diesel particulate filters choke round Trebarber
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the type you meet in a coastal area such as Trebarber.
