What the car has been telling you
The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been growing for a while:
- less power, especially climbing uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they always went
- the fuel economy is down
- a stop/start that has silently packed in
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
On its own, none of that is proof. Alongside the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Townwell
