Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Townsend, Wiltshire
The car remains where it is — on-site DPF cleaning comes to it. A fitter comes at your place over in Townsend, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Nobody travels until the figure is settled over the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most people find us with the light already on, and the motor low on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.
Your DPF light is showing — what next?
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A check comes before the treatment, because that same dash light has a number of possible faults behind it.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then counts.
- A long steady run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives as normal. Costs nothing at all, so have a go at that before ringing.
- That window has gone once the car has dropped into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.
- Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
What the vehicle has been showing you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for a while before it appears:
- dropping away on power, especially uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- consumption that is worse than it used to be
- the stop/start without a word giving up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. The light alongside them suggests a blocked filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke round Townsend
Being a rural hamlet, Townsend throws up exactly the use a DPF copes with least well. The school run to Five Lanes Church of England Primary School, Mill Lane at a standstill at half eight, a few minutes to M&S Simply Food, the hop to Melksham — none of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. What should burn away remains.
Geography does not assist either. The M4 is under 15 miles from Townsend and Bath is under 15 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, whole weeks go by without the long steady run that would clear the filter on its own.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode is. With power limited and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs will not run at all. That tells, because setting off one is exactly what a long run does.
Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it works right up to a line. Past that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter requires cleaning.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands across Townsend
Most people do not anticipate this part: the filter remains. The job happens with the DPF yet fixed to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a while.
A check comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and connected hardware, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is started.
Then the treatment. A solution is fed in through the access port on that motor and spreads inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. Stay with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Townsend. Drop it and the regeneration is done on the spot, with live data verified once it is done.
Then a second check, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Treatment fixes one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
- an EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system fault
- a regeneration that simply never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil coming through the filter from a worn turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. Transpiring to be one of them means learning it before the work gets going, not after settling up a penny.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.
The cost of DPF cleaning around Townsend
Each visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, doing the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
The number is fixed on the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be straight. What you own and where you are both change it: Townsend itself, across at Marston, or further out in the SN postcode area.
You are not billed for treatment that the diagnostic says will not work. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.
If the light returns inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Townsend — the job carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Id recommend DPF Fixer when your dpf needs cleaning. Daniel who attended to my car was friendly, knowledgeable, explaining what the problem was and how he fixed it. I also needed a replacement sensor which Daniel sorted. A very good service. Thank you.
I waited a month just to see, but now I'm so happy with their work, Wonderful company, easy booking, they really do their work impeccably and are reasonably flexible. They did work on my civic, ash values went from 66grams to 0.
Needed the van urgently for work, they came first thing the next day, ran a full test before and found it didn't need a clean but was the temp sensors that have failed, gave some good advise and left. Quick, pleasant and honest to deal with.
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Townsend
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
The same round that puts our engineers on Mill Lane most weeks takes in Townsend, Marston, Bulkington and the spots beyond Poulshot. Even further out across Wiltshire is nonetheless worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that settles between this day and the next.
Townsend itself

Townsend lies near the villages of Poulshot, Worton, and Marston, and is approximately 13.8 miles from the city of Bath. What Townsend drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you get it early, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not fifteen minutes or so to M&S Simply Food and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
- The cost across Townsend — what is it?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you drive and where you are both shift the figure.
- Do I have to be around?
- No. The motor needs somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- When can someone get to Townsend?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is free across the SN area.
- Is the filter taken off the motor?
- Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- And if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Townsend.
