Mobile DPF Cleaning across Towan Cross and Cornwall
The motor stays where it is — mobile DPF cleaning comes to it. A fitter arrives at your door over in Towan Cross, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the price is settled by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is on already and the car is short of power — that is how we usually come across people, and roughly what this page covers.
What to check when the DPF light shows
The DPF is not necessarily what is wrong, and that leads. That light can come from several faults, not just one, so the visit begins with a scan and not with treatment.
It matters what you do with the vehicle between now and the visit.
- Amber light, motor yet driving fine — a long even run can yet clear it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
- That window has gone once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not help now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle, is the stage to stop arranging long drives and call.
Before the light, what the motor was telling you
The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been building for a while:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they used to
- the fuel use is poorer
- the stop/start quietly giving up
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.
What blocks diesel particulate filters near Towan Cross
Towan Cross is a coastal area, and the driving that goes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. A regeneration takes time and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to Mount Hawke Academy, not on Eastcliff at half eight, not on a few minutes to Aldi, and not on the hop to Redruth. What should clear stays behind.
Neither is far from Towan Cross: over 50 miles to the M5, under 10 miles to Truro. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the run that would scour a filter never comes.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
What limp mode amounts to is the car protecting itself. With output capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants cannot happen at all. That counts, because setting off one is precisely what a sustained run does.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — right up until the day it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that line, and the filter wants cleaning rather than road work.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated across Towan Cross
Nothing comes off the motor. That surprises people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can stand for two hours or so.
The ECU is taken first, showing soot load by percent and by weight, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.
Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the motor's own access port, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is heavily loaded, expect a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then burned off by a regeneration. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Towan Cross, with you there, or it runs where the motor sits and the real-time data is read after.
Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what confirms the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still open.
What a DPF clean will not touch
A clean answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- pressure sensors showing a blockage that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting in the first place
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
That is what the first check is for. If one of those turns out to be the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has gone already.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it cut out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning costs across Towan Cross
The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that goes with it.
Once we have what you own, and broadly what the filter will want, the number gets agreed by phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. The motor moves it, and so does the location — Towan Cross, Banns, or a spot farther out in the TR postcode area.
Where the scan says a clean will not help, you are not billed for a clean. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Towan Cross — the job includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Very grateful of the service, Logan was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely recommend. Booking and organising home visit was easy and efficient. Thank you so much!
Recently had the DPF cleaned by Liam. Good communication throughout, and he clearly answered all questions. The van is now up and running nicely.
Engineer arrived within 2 hours of my phone call! He was polite and helpful, explained everything and did exactly what he said he would, perfect!
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Towan Cross
Cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
The same trip that puts engineers on Eastcliff most weeks takes in Towan Cross, Banns, Goonvrea and the spots beyond Mount Hawke. Phone anyway from farther out around Cornwall. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the slot you are given hangs on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning around Towan Cross
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- It can, provided you catch it early enough and limp mode has not begun. A long run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes or so to Aldi and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly clogged filter can take a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it come to in Towan Cross?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- You need not stand with it — the motor only wants somewhere to wait for a couple of hours. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.
- Travelling to Towan Cross — how soon?
- That depends on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is free across the TR area.
- Is the filter taken off the vehicle?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. Lifting a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything a job we do either way.
- What if the light comes back?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Towan Cross.
