Torpoint, Cornwall: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Call-out DPF cleaning goes to the vehicle. A technician arrives at your place in Torpoint, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Allow for the visit running typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, settled over the phone before anyone sets off.
The light is showing and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we generally meet people, and roughly what this page covers.
The DPF light is on. What now?
It could not be the unit whatsoever. That is the first thing. A clean is not where a visit starts. A scan is — several faults show up as the same light.
The use you get in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.
- Amber light, car yet driving normally — a long steady run can still shift it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth a try before you call anything.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle — stop booking long drives and get it looked at.
The car has been warning you already
Symptoms have usually been building for a while before the light ever arrives. Late news, in other words:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- revs that will not pull the way they once did
- the fuel use is down
- the stop/start without a word bowing out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not proof alone. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Torpoint
For a DPF, the poorest use is the kind you get in a coastal town such as Torpoint. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to Torpoint Nursery and Infant School, not on Fore Street at the morning rush, not on five minutes to Sainsbury's, and not on the dash to Dockyard. Soot that should burn away collects instead.
Geography does not oblige either. The M5 is under 50 miles from Torpoint and Plymouth is under 3 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way routinely, whole weeks go by without the sustained run that would clear the filter by itself.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. Output is held down, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter needs can not happen — which is the whole problem, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
Sound advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: cleaning is what will do it, not more driving.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Torpoint
Most drivers do not anticipate this bit: the filter stays on. The job is done with the DPF even now fixed to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can sit for a couple of hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percentage and by mass, along with a look over of sensor readings, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are loosened second, by a cleaning solution passed through the entry point on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Severely clogged filters sometimes require a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has loosened. Come with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Torpoint. Drop it and the regeneration is done statically, with running data verified once it is done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light cleared, anything still outstanding logged. Both read-outs arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Treatment answers one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, showing a block that is not real
- EGR valves that hang open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration starting whatsoever
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
That is what the first check is for. When one of those is the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has gone for good.
Two more worth knowing. Getting the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your existing filter is treated in place and sent back into use.
What DPF cleaning costs around Torpoint
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it on the phone, once the car and its likely needs are clear. The car shifts it, and so does the location — Torpoint, Wilcove, or a spot farther out in the PL postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for cleaning that the diagnostic says will not help. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless holds.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Torpoint if the light reappears inside the time.
Attila the engineer arrived on time and was very polite and knowledgeable. He explained everything very clearly and carried out process with no time wasting.

What we clean, and how far we travel near Torpoint
The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
The same trip that puts our engineers on Fore Street most weeks picks up Torpoint, Wilcove, Mount Wise and the places beyond St John. Farther out through Cornwall is still worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

What Torpoint drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early and the car has not slipped into limp mode. That means motorway speed for a sustained spell, rather than a quick trip to Sainsbury's.
- The visit lasts how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can require a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it come to across Torpoint?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for the call-out that covers the scan and advice on what to do next. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Is it essential for me to be around?
- You need not stand with it — the vehicle just needs somewhere to sit for a couple of hours. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive instead.
- When can someone get to Torpoint?
- That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the PL area.
- The filter — does it come away from the vehicle?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it is. Lifting a filter off or bolting one back on amount to anything work we do either way.
- And if the light reappears?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Torpoint.
