Top Green, Nottinghamshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Call-out DPF cleaning travels to the car. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A technician comes to your place over in Top Green, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is agreed by the phone before anyone travels.
If the light is on already and the car is low on power, this page is yours. That is how most people end up here.
DPF light on? What to do
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. A check goes before all work, because that same dashboard light has several likely faults behind it.
How the motor is driven in the meantime matters too.
- A long steady run may even now do it, provided the light is amber and the car goes as normal. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before booking.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been going wrong for a while. It is last news:
- power falling off, especially pulling uphill
- you notice the revs stop short of where they once went
- worse fuel consumption
- stop/start without a word giving up
- the cabin stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
None of that is proof by itself. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
Choked diesel particulate filters round Top Green, and the reason
Top Green is a small village, and the driving that goes with one is the worst sort for a DPF. The school run to Flintham Primary School, Church Lane at a crawl at half eight, five minutes to Lincolnshire Co-op, the run to Elton & Orston — not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. What should burn off stays put.
The map does not help either. The M1 is under 25 miles from Top Green and Nottingham is under 15 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way often, whole weeks go by without the long steady run that would clear the filter by itself.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power held down, revs pinned, no regeneration possible.
Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it works up to a line. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter wants a clean rather than driving.
The vehicle stays in place for call-out DPF cleaning across Top Green
Most drivers do not expect this detail: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF still fixed to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a while.
The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
A cleaning fluid next goes in through the entry point on that car, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Where the filter is heavily clogged, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Top Green if you are there, or a static regeneration where the car stands, with the running data read once done.
Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what confirms the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not touch:
- the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
- EGR valves that jam open
- AdBlue system failures
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
- turbo failure, with oil getting into the filter
Which is why the check comes first. If one of those turns out to be the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has gone already.
Two more worth noting. Having the filter gutted is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is treated in place and returned into use.
DPF cleaning prices in Top Green
A clean starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
No flat rate would be truthful, so the figure is agreed on the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Two separate things move it: what you own, and where you are — Top Green itself, over at Shelton, or otherwise out across the NG postcode area.
You are not charged for a clean that the diagnostic says will not work. What still holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was done and the advice was passed on.
The job carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Top Green if the light reappears inside that time.
I RANG DPP FIXER THEY CALLED BACK WITHIN. MINUTES ORGANISED FOR THE NEXT DAY AND GUY TURNED UP AT THE APPOINTED TIME CLEANED DPP TOOK 1HR VERY PLEASED WITH SERVICE.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach round Top Green
A single on-site service spans cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is done on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.
Week in week out there is already someone on Church Lane, so Top Green hardly ever means a detour, and Shelton, Elston and the places past Sibthorpe come with it. Even further out around Nottinghamshire is even so worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

What Top Green drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early enough and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. A steady run at motorway speed is what it wants — not five minutes to Lincolnshire Co-op and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly blocked.
- Cost around Top Green — what is it?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we quote on the phone.
- Have I need to be around?
- No. The motor wants space to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.
- When can someone travel to Top Green?
- That depends on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is open across the NG area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light comes back — then what?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Top Green.
