Tong, West Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a workshop. Your motor will not be taken off and the filter will not come off. A fitter comes at your place across Tong, clears the diesel particulate filter on the car and performs a DPF regeneration.
You'll know a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
Most owners find us with the light on already, and the motor low on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.
Your DPF light is showing — what next?
The DPF is not automatically what is to blame, and that comes first. A scan comes before the cleaning, because that same dashboard light has a number of likely faults behind it.
How the car is driven in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Amber light, vehicle yet driving normally — a long steady run can even now clear it alone. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- Car already fallen into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the car smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
The motor has been warning you already
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been building for a while:
- going uphill, the power falls off
- an engine whose revs will not pull as they should
- consumption that is worse than it used to be
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
None of that is conclusive on its own. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
What chokes diesel particulate filters near Tong
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the kind you meet in a village such as Tong. Look at a typical week: Southroyd Primary and Nursery School and back, Hill Green Court at a standstill before half nine, a five-minute run to Co-op Food, a hop to New Pudsey. Nothing there goes on long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. Soot that should burn away banks up instead.
Neither is distant from Tong: under 3 miles to the M621, under 5 miles to Bradford. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter never happens.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
The motor is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter requires can never complete — which is the whole problem, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
Getting it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds up to a line. The filter wants cleaning rather than driving once the motor has gone into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Tong
The filter does not come off. That is the detail most owners do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF still fitted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can sit for a couple of hours.
Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That requires a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts.
A solution then is fed in through the access port on that motor, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Tong, with you there, or it goes where the vehicle stands and the real-time data is read afterwards.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, clearing the warning light and noting anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning fixes. It will not touch:
- the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
- an EGR valve held open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing whatsoever
- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter
The first scan is there for precisely that. When it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have paid for it.
Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a working DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the wording people search for, though nothing is exchanged — your original filter is cleaned in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning costs across Tong
A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice offered. The clean itself begins from £299.
Once we are told what you own, and roughly what the filter will need, the figure gets settled by phone. A single price for all would not be honest. Two separate things move it: what you run, and where you are — Tong itself, across at Fulneck, or otherwise out in the BD postcode area.
If the check writes a clean out, there is nothing to pay for it. The call-out charge nonetheless applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place.
If the light returns inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Tong — the work carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
Diaz did a very great job. He gave a detail explanation on what to do after his work and in fact the car is back on its normal performance. Thank you mate.
Dave was great and really knowledgeable, was polite enough to call me letting me know his arrival time. He cleaned my dpf in about an hour and even gave me some advice on further maintenance on my BMW. Thanks Dave.
The technician was very informative and kept me updated with what was happening with my car, a good job done.
What we clean, and how far we reach round Tong
The filter is done where it sits on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Technicians are along Hill Green Court nearly every week, so Tong is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run takes in Fulneck, Drighlington and the places out past Troydale. Call anyway from farther out around West Yorkshire. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you are given comes down to the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning in Tong
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Sometimes, if you spot it in time and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. It takes a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes flat to Co-op Food and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly blocked.
- In Tong, what does it run to?
- Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Have I have to be there?
- Space for the motor to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. Travel along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a supervised drive.
- Coming to Tong — how soon?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the BD area.
- The filter — does it come away from the vehicle?
- Not on the on-site service — it is done where it sits. Neither lifting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- An engineer comes back out to Tong — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
