The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been mounting for some time:
- going uphill, the power falls off
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- fuel consumption getting worse
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
That is not conclusive on its own. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.
