Mobile DPF Cleaning across Tofts, Highland
Treating the DPF is done at the car, not at a body shop. The fitter arrives at your address over in Tofts and starts. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you keep the filter you started with.
Nobody travels until the price is agreed over the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most drivers find us with the light showing, and the vehicle short of power. That is the position this page is written for.
Your DPF light is showing — what now?
The DPF is not automatically what is at fault, and that leads. Plenty of faults put the same light on the identical dash, which is why a visit opens with a check rather than with treatment.
The use you manage in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.
- Amber light, car even now driving fine — a long constant run can still sort it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- Car already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop planning long drives and call.
The vehicle has been warning you already
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for some time. It is late news:
- climbing uphill, the power falls off
- revs that will not climb the way they used to
- fuel use getting worse
- stop/start without a word giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
None of that is proof alone. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
What chokes diesel particulate filters round Tofts
Tofts is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that comes with one is the worst kind for a DPF. A regeneration needs time and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on A99 at half eight, not on ten minutes to the local shops, and not on the dash to Wick. What should clear remains.
The map does not help either. The M90 is over 50 miles from Tofts and Inverness is over 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, weeks slip past without the sustained run that might scour the filter on its own.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
What limp mode means is the motor looking after itself. The real catch is that a proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — right up until the point it is not. Past that line — limp mode — driving will not do it, and the filter requires treatment.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Tofts
The filter does not come off. That is the part most people do not expect: the job happens with the DPF even now bolted to the vehicle, on your front, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a few hours.
A scan comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related hardware, so other faults are cleared before anything is touched.
Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the vehicle's own access point, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. A second pass is sometimes needed on severely clogged filters.
What the clean has lifted is then burned off by a regeneration. Stay with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Tofts. Leave it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with live data read once it is done.
Then a second check, verifying the change, clearing the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where a clean is not the answer
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not touch:
- a pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve held open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo trouble, with oil entering the filter
Finding that out is the first check's job. Proving to be one of them means finding out it before work starts, not after paying for it.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets looked up as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Tofts
Each visit carries a call-out charge — coming out to you, setting up the booking, running the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Once we have what you run, and about what the filter will want, the figure gets agreed on the phone. A single price for every job would not be honest. What you own and where you are both move it: Tofts itself, over at Auckengill, or further out in the KW postcode area.
You are not charged for cleaning that the scan says will not work. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, did the check and gave you the advice.
The work carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Tofts if the light returns inside that window.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach round Tofts
Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles — one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Technicians are along A99 nearly every week, so Tofts is rarely a detour, and the same run takes in Auckengill, Seater and the spots out past Canisbay. It is the diary, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone still from even further out across Highland.

Questions Tofts drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to the local shops and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is badly clogged.
- The cost in Tofts — what is it?
- Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
- Must I be around in person?
- The vehicle requires a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.
- Coming to Tofts — how soon?
- That depends on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the KW area.
- Is the filter lifted off the motor?
- Done where it is, on this service, so no. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- And if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Tofts.
