Toft Monks, Norfolk: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. No body shop, no filter leaving. An engineer travels to your door in Toft Monks, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
You'll know a number by phone before anyone departs, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
The light is on already and the motor is down on power — that is how we normally find people, and roughly what this page covers.
The DPF light is on. What next?
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. A diagnostic comes before all treatment, because that same dash light has several likely faults behind it.
The use you manage in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.
- Worth a try before you call anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one even run, no charge.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
What the vehicle has been telling you
Symptoms have generally been building for some time before the light even shows. Last news, in other words:
- less power, especially going uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they always did
- fuel economy going worse
- the stop/start quietly giving up
- the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
By itself, none of that is evidence. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
The reason diesel particulate filters clog round Toft Monks
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the kind you find across a rural village such as Toft Monks. A regeneration takes the time and heat, and sees none: not on the school run to Glebeland Community Primary School, not on Saint Benedict's Close at half eight, not on a few minutes to Morrisons, and not on the run to Beccles. The soot that should burn off banks up instead.
Neither is distant from Toft Monks: over 50 miles to the M11, under 25 miles to Norwich. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the journey that would empty a filter never happens.
DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode kills it
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode means. The real difficulty is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it holds up to a line. Beyond that stage — limp mode — more driving will not be enough, and the filter wants a clean.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Toft Monks
Nothing leaves the car. That throws people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can wait for two hours or so.
A diagnostic comes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts, so other faults are ruled out before anything is touched.
Then comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the motor's own access port, expanding inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is severely clogged, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Toft Monks, with you there, or it runs where the car waits and the real-time data is read once done.
Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- pressure sensors reporting a blockage that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system problem
- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
Finding that out is the first scan's job. Proving to be one of them means learning it before work starts, not after handing over anything.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you own is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to in Toft Monks
Every visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, taking the booking, doing the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the price is agreed by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Whereabouts you are counts as much as what you run: Toft Monks itself, Waterheath next door, or farther out across the NR postcode area.
If the scan counts a clean out, there is nothing to pay for it. The call-out charge still stands, because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Toft Monks if the light reappears inside that period.
Bloke called Loan come out to clean my dpf it turns out that the adblue injector was faulty he spotted it made sure it was definitely that was really helpful and friendly would definitely recommend them.
Daniel was an outstanding mechanic he went out of his way to help me fix my car would very highly recommend thank you!
Baz (the DPF Technician) was absolutely superb; he was knowledgeable, polite and informative. Importantly he cleaned and restored my DPF such that my car performance returned to normal.
What we clean, and how far we travel round Toft Monks
The one call-out service spans private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Engineers are along Saint Benedict's Close week in week out, so Toft Monks is hardly ever a detour, and the same run picks up Waterheath, Maypole Green and the places out past Haddiscoe. It is the diary, not the distance, that decides whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone anyway from further out across Norfolk.

Questions Toft Monks drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early and the car has not slipped into limp mode. It needs a sustained run at motorway speed, not five minutes flat to Morrisons and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can require a second clean, which extends that.
- Across Toft Monks, what does it run to?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both shift the price.
- Have I got to be present?
- No. The vehicle needs a spot to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- Coming to Toft Monks — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the schedule. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the NR area has free.
- Is the filter removed from the vehicle?
- Done where it is, on this service, so no. Nor does lifting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light reappears?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Toft Monks.
