The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been building for some time:
- less power, above all going uphill

- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
That is not evidence alone. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
