Three Holes, Norfolk: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Mobile DPF cleaning goes to the motor. A technician turns up at your door in Three Holes, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
You'll know a number by phone before anyone departs, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
Written for the state most drivers are in: the light already on, the motor starved for power, and the visit still to book.
Your DPF light is lit — what then?
Not the DPF, necessarily. First thing to say. A scan happens before the cleaning, because that same dashboard light has a number of candidate faults behind it.
The use you manage in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- Worth a go before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving normally, just one constant run, no charge.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you
By the time the light appears, things have usually been slipping for a while. It is last news:
- climbing uphill, the power drops away
- an engine whose revs will not pull like they did
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration
None of that is conclusive on its own. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Three Holes
Three Holes is a village, and the motoring that comes with one is the worst sort for a DPF. Nothing of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Upwell Academy, Squires Drove barely moving at the morning rush, five minutes to Morrisons, the dash to March. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning away.
The A1(M) sits under 25 miles from Three Holes, Ely under 15 miles off, and unless something carries you out that way often, full weeks go by without the sustained run that scours a DPF. Geography does not oblige.
DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode ends it
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer run — which is the real catch, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
So the standard advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, right until the day it is not. The filter needs treatment rather than more driving once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the car across Three Holes
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can stand for a few hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That requires a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected components.
Then the clean. A cleaning solution is injected through the entry point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Severely blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Three Holes; if not, on the spot where the car sits, with the running data verified after.
Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what verifies the change, clears the light and logs whatever is still open.
Where treatment is not the answer
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- temperature or pressure sensors showing a restriction that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system failure
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever runs
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. When one of those is the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has gone altogether.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets looked up as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your own filter is cleaned in place and goes back into work.
What DPF cleaning runs to across Three Holes
A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice offered. The clean itself begins from £299.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the number is settled over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you own and where you are both change it: Three Holes itself, out at Outwell, or farther out in the PE postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for treatment that the scan says will not do it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless holds.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to Three Holes.
Great service, from booking to completion of clean. Attila was really good, helpful and knowledgeable, explaining everything clearly; would definitely recommend!!
Engineer arrived within 2 hours of my phone call! He was polite and helpful, explained everything and did exactly what he said he would, perfect!
A friendly and professional service, I was particularly impressed with the stress placed on understanding the way in which the exhaust emission control system works and the importance of regularly topping up the AdBlue tank.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Three Holes
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
The same trip that has technicians on Squires Drove most weeks takes in Three Holes, Outwell, Christchurch and the places beyond Upwell. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone even from farther out around Norfolk.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Three Holes
- Will a long drive sort it?
- Sometimes, if you get it early and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. It takes a steady run at motorway speed, not five minutes or so to Morrisons and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily blocked filter can take cleaning twice, which adds time.
- How much does it run to across Three Holes?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we price on the phone.
- Do I have to be there?
- Somewhere for the car to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. Travel along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a supervised drive.
- Getting to Three Holes — how soon?
- That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is available across the PE area.
- The filter — does it leave the car?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it is. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Three Holes.
