Mobile DPF Cleaning across The Spa and Wiltshire
Treating the DPF is done at the vehicle, not at a body shop. Your motor will not be taken away and the filter will not budge. An engineer comes at your place in The Spa, cleans the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
Reckon on the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, settled over the phone before anyone leaves.
Written for the position most callers are in: the light showing, the motor short for power, and the clean still to arrange.
The DPF light is on. What now?
It could not be the filter at all. That is the first thing. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the identical dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a diagnostic rather than with cleaning.
It counts what you do with the vehicle between now and the appointment.
- Vehicle still driving fine on an amber light — attempt a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and often shifts the filter without a visit.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already closed.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone past the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you
Last news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for some time before it shows:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- you notice the revs fall short of where they always went
- worse fuel consumption
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under acceleration
Alone, none of that is evidence. The light with them points at a blocked filter.
What chokes diesel particulate filters near The Spa
For a DPF, the worst motoring is the type you meet in a small village such as The Spa. None of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Bowerhill Primary School, Wellington Square crawling at half past eight, ten minutes to The Co-operative Food, the dash to Melksham. Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot collects.
Neither is a long way from The Spa: under 15 miles to the M4, under 15 miles to Bath. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter never comes.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer run
The car is looking after itself, which is what limp mode means. Output is capped, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter wants can never complete — which is the whole catch, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — until the moment it is not. The filter wants cleaning rather than driving once the car has dropped into limp mode.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is done round The Spa
Nothing is taken from the motor. That catches out people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can wait for a few hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percent and by weight, along with a review of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.
Then the treatment. A solution goes in through the entry point on that motor and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Badly blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. Ride along with the motor and it is done as a monitored drive out of The Spa. Leave it and the regeneration runs on the spot, with live data checked once it is done.
A second check proves the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A clean cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure, reporting a block that is not real
- an EGR valve held open
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
Which is why the check comes first. When it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have settled up for it.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a working DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is replaced — your own filter is treated in place and sent back into use. Two more worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to around The Spa
Treatment starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
No flat rate would be honest, so the figure is agreed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Where you are tells as much as what you own: The Spa itself, Berryfield next door, or further out in the SN postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. The call-out charge even so applies, because the visit, the check and the advice have happened.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer coming back out to The Spa if the light reappears inside the period.
Really impressed with this! Very easy to arrange, really helpful chap called Andras who carried out the clean and diagnostics, and much much cheaper than replacing the filter so saved me a lot of money. Highly recommended.
Dan and trainee Sam came along sorted out the car, got it from trapped on the drive to back on the road in under 1hr and 30 mins. Also highlighted some issues that needed fixing unrelated to the initial problem and gave some after care advice!
Dave was great and really knowledgeable, was polite enough to call me letting me know his arrival time. He cleaned my dpf in about an hour and even gave me some advice on further maintenance on my BMW. Thanks Dave.
The vehicles we clean and the area we reach near The Spa
The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
The same round that has engineers on Wellington Square most weeks covers The Spa, Berryfield, Redstocks and the spots beyond Bowerhill. Coverage runs UK-wide, so even further out through Wiltshire is still worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Questions The Spa drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- It can, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not set in. That requires motorway speed for a sustained stretch, rather than a quick trip to The Co-operative Food.
- How long does the visit take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely loaded filter can take cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Cost around The Spa — what is it?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the check and advice on what to do next. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
- Must I be around in person?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the motor only needs somewhere to wait for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is fine: the regeneration then is done out on the road, monitored.
- When can someone travel to The Spa?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the SN area has open.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. We will not lift filters off or put them back on, in either direction.
- And if the light reappears?
- An engineer travels back out to The Spa — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
