- going uphill, the power falls off
- an engine whose revs will not pull as they should
- the fuel use is poorer
- stop/start without a word giving up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not conclusive by itself. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What blocks diesel particulate filters round The Ryde

Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the phrase people search for, though nothing is exchanged — your own filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth knowing.
