Mobile DPF Cleaning covering The Ridges, Berkshire
Treating the DPF happens at the motor, not at a workshop. An engineer comes at your place across The Ridges, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
Nobody leaves until the number is settled on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Most people find us with the light on already, and the car low on power. That is exactly what this page is written for.
The DPF light is on. What next?
Not the filter, automatically. Main thing to note. A diagnostic goes before all cleaning, because that same dashboard light has a number of candidate faults behind it.
It counts what you get with the motor between now and the booking.
- Amber light, motor yet driving as normal — a long constant run can even now clear it by itself. Costs zero, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not reach it now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and ring.
Signs the motor has been giving you
The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been mounting for some time:
- power dropping away, above all climbing uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they always did
- fuel economy going worse
- stop/start without a word bowing out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
None of that is proof by itself. Next to the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.
The cause diesel particulate filters choke around The Ridges
The day-to-day driving that belongs to a small village like The Ridges is the worst sort for a DPF. A regeneration needs time and heat, and gets neither: not on the school run to Finchampstead CofE VA Primary School, not on The Ridges at half eight, not on ten minutes to Waitrose, and not on the dash to Crowthorne. The soot banks up rather than burning away.
Except when you have a routine cause to drive out to the A329(M), under 5 miles from The Ridges, or out to Winchester under 50 miles away, weeks pass without a long unbroken drive. Geography is unhelpful.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it
The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. With output held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs will not run at all. That matters, because starting one is just what a long run does.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the motor round The Ridges
Most drivers do not anticipate this detail: the filter remains. The job is done with the DPF still bolted to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a few hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percent and by weight, along with a check of sensor readings, glow plugs and connected hardware, so nothing is started while another fault is still in play.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never move are loosened next, by a solution put through the access point on that car, which expands inside the filter. Where the filter is badly blocked, expect a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of The Ridges; if not, statically where the vehicle stands, with the running data checked once done.
A second scan verifies the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures recorded.
Where treatment is not the fix
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not reach:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, showing a restriction that is not real
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system problem
- a regeneration that never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
The first scan is there for just that. You are let know before the work starts, not after you have handed over, if it turns out to be one of those.
Two things more worth noting. Getting the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is cleared in place and returned into use.
Figures for DPF cleaning across The Ridges
A clean begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Once we are told what you own, and broadly what the filter will want, the figure gets settled by phone. A single price for everyone would not be straight. The vehicle changes it, and so does the location — The Ridges, Eversley Cross, or a spot farther out in the RG postcode area.
You are not charged for a clean that the diagnostic says will not do it. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.
The clean carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to The Ridges if the light reappears inside that time.
Your fitter, Zac, came at the agreed time and did the work very efficiently outside our house. He explained everything fully and went with me to test drive the car to make sure everything was rectified. Very happy with everything. 10/10.
Great prompt service. Fixed my issue within the hour. Yes expensive at £458 but I was on the road and my van running again. Value for money.
Very happy with the DPF clean car was well clogged up and not running correctly but now running perfectly, very happy.
What we clean, and how far we reach near The Ridges
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Engineers are along The Ridges nearly every week, so The Ridges is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run covers Eversley Cross, Ravenswood Village Settlement and the spots out past Finchampstead. Even further out around Berkshire is nonetheless worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

Questions The Ridges drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- It can, provided you spot it early and limp mode has not arrived. It needs a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes or so to Waitrose and back.
- How long does the visit take?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily loaded.
- Cost across The Ridges — what is it?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the check and the advice; treatment itself begins from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the price.
- Do I have to be around?
- Space for the car to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. The regeneration can be done as a monitored drive if you would rather ride along.
- Can someone get to The Ridges soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the calendar. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the RG area.
- The filter — does it leave the car?
- It is done where it stands, on the mobile service. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- An engineer travels back out to The Ridges — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
