Mobile DPF Cleaning around The Rhos, Pembrokeshire

Call-out DPF cleaning goes to the vehicle. Your car will not be taken anywhere and the filter does not come off. An engineer turns up at your place across The Rhos, treats the diesel particulate filter on the car and carries out a DPF regeneration.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.

If the light is already on and the vehicle is down on power, this page is for you. That is how most people get to us.

The DPF light is on. What now?

First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A clean is not where a visit opens. A diagnostic is — a number of faults appear as the same light.

The use you manage in the meantime matters. That is the second thing.

  • A long even run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs fine. Costs nothing, so attempt that before calling.
  • Once the motor is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has closed.
  • Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

Before the light, what the car was warning you

The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been growing for some time:

  • pulling uphill, the power falls off
  • revs that will not pull the way they once did
  • worse fuel use
  • stop/start without a word giving up
  • the cabin reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

That is not evidence by itself. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.

Blocked diesel particulate filters near The Rhos, and the why

For a DPF, the least kind driving is the sort you meet across a rural hamlet such as The Rhos. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and has not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on Creamston Road at half eight, not on ten minutes to Aldi, and not on the hop to Haverfordwest. Soot that should clear collects instead.

The M4 sits under 50 miles from The Rhos, St Davids under 25 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way often, entire weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that clears a DPF. Geography does not assist.

Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration

The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. The entire difficulty is that a proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.

Sound advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter requires a clean rather than more driving.

Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done round The Rhos

The filter does not budge. That is the detail most people do not expect: the job is done with the DPF still fitted to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a few hours.

The ECU is taken first, reporting soot load by percentage and by mass, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.

Then the treatment. A cleaning solution is fed in through the access point on that car and spreads inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Where the filter is badly loaded, plan on a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of The Rhos if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the live data checked once done.

A second check proves the change, resets the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.

The problems a DPF clean cannot answer

One thing is what treatment answers — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors reporting a block that is not there
  • an EGR valve held open
  • the AdBlue system going wrong
  • worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
  • turbo failure, with oil entering the filter

That is what the first scan is for. If it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have paid anything.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no fix. What gets looked up as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.

DPF cleaning charges around The Rhos

Each visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, taking the booking, running the check and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.

Quoting a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it by phone, once the car and its probable needs are clear. Two things move it: what you run, and where you are — The Rhos itself, across at Hillblock, or further out within the SA postcode area.

If the scan counts cleaning out, there is not a penny to pay for it. The call-out charge still stands, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to The Rhos.

Where we travel round The Rhos, and what we clean

One call-out service spans cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than carried anywhere.

Nearly every week there is already someone on Creamston Road, so The Rhos seldom means a detour, and Hillblock, Slebech and the villages past Wiston follow. Coverage runs UK-wide, so even further out across Pembrokeshire is even so worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Things The Rhos drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?
It can, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not begun. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes to Aldi and back.
The visit runs how long?
Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is severely loaded.
How much does it run to across The Rhos?
Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the check and advice on what to do next. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you sit both change the number.
Have I have to be around?
You do not need to stand with it — the car just needs space to sit for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would sooner be there.
Can someone come to The Rhos soon?
You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is available across the SA area.
Does the filter leave the vehicle?
Done where it is, on this service, so no. We never lift filters off or bolt them back on, either way.
The light returns — then what?
Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to The Rhos.
