Mobile DPF Cleaning across The Quay, Devon
The motor remains where it is — call-out DPF cleaning travels to it. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A technician travels to your address in The Quay, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Nobody leaves until the number is fixed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the motor down on power. That is exactly what this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What now?
First thing: it is not always the filter. Treatment is not where a visit starts. A scan is — a number of faults register as the same warning.
It counts what you get with the car between now and the appointment.
- Car yet driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long even run first. It costs zero and often clears the filter without assistance.
- Vehicle already fallen into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not shift it now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the cabin stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
The car has been telling you already
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been building for some time:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- you see the revs never reach where they once went
- worse fuel consumption
- without a word, the stop/start packs in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
That is not conclusive on its own. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.
What clogs diesel particulate filters near The Quay
The day-to-day driving that comes with a residential suburb like The Quay is the poorest type for a DPF. A regeneration wants the time and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to St Leonard's (CofE) Primary School (VC), not on The Quay at half eight, not on a few minutes to M&S Foodhall, and not on the dash to Exeter St Thomas. Instead of clearing, the soot builds up.
Unless you have a routine reason to head out to the M5, under 3 miles from The Quay, or over to Exeter under a mile away, whole weeks pass without a sustained stint. Geography is unhelpful.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
Limp mode is the car defending itself. With pulling power held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires can never happen at all. That matters, because triggering one is just what a sustained run does.
The common advice — run it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. In limp mode you are past that stage: cleaning is what will help, not more road work.
The car stays in place for call-out DPF cleaning round The Quay
On your front, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can wait for a few hours: the job takes place with the filter yet fixed on, which is the detail most owners do not expect.
The ECU is taken first, giving soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still open.
A cleaning solution after that goes in through the access port on that motor, expanding inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to require doing twice.
A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of The Quay if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the live data read afterwards.
A second check verifies the change, puts out the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so you end up with the before and after figures on record.
The problems a DPF clean cannot answer
A clean cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong signal from a pressure or temperature sensor
- EGR valves that jam open
- AdBlue system failures
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration starting in the first place
- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter
Which is why the diagnostic comes first. If it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have handed over anything.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets looked up as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.
What DPF cleaning runs to across The Quay
Cleaning begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
The number is fixed by the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be truthful. Two separate things move it: what you drive, and where you are — The Quay itself, over at St Leonards, or otherwise out within the EX postcode area.
Cleaning that will not help is not treatment you pay for, and the scan is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
The job includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to The Quay if the light comes back inside that time.
Managed to clean the DPF in my Range Rover Evoque whilst in limp mode and get it back on the road in 2 hours. Ashley was knowledgeable and did a cracking job.
My father in law used this service. He was very impressed with the whole process and Kieran was very knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly. Highly recommend.
Logan came out today at very short notice, was very efficient and knowledgeable. Highly recommended, he was even able to explain things in terms I could understand. an outstanding engineer!!!
Where we get to around The Quay, and what we clean
Cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
Engineers are along The Quay most weeks, so The Quay is seldom a detour, and the same run takes in St Leonards, St Thomas and the spots out past Ide. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call anyway from even further out through Devon.

What The Quay drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Soon enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to M&S Foodhall and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
- In The Quay, what does it come to?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the price, so we price on the phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- You do not need to stand with it — the vehicle just wants space to stand for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then goes out on the open road, monitored.
- When can someone travel to The Quay?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is typical. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the EX area has free.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything something we do whichever way.
- Suppose the light returns?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to The Quay.
