The Oval, West Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the vehicle. No garage, no filter going anywhere. An engineer drives out to your address in The Oval, cleans the diesel particulate filter where it is, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
You'll have a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
Written for the state most callers are in: the light already on, the car struggling for power, and the job still to book.
What to try when the DPF light is on
The DPF is not automatically what is to blame, and that leads. Treatment is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — several faults appear as the same light.
It tells what you manage with the vehicle between now and the appointment.
- Worth a shot before you ring anything: amber light, car driving fine, just one constant run, no outlay.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, motoring will not touch it. The window has gone.
- Stop booking long drives and get it looked at if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
The motor has been telling you already
Symptoms have usually been growing for weeks before the light so much as arrives. Last news, in other words:
- falling off on power, above all uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
- worse fuel use
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell inside
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. The light beside them points at a loaded filter.
What clogs diesel particulate filters around The Oval
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the sort you find around a residential suburb such as The Oval. The school run to Cross Gates Primary School, York Road at a standstill at half eight, five minutes to Asda, the run to Cross Gates — not one bit of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot collects.
Except when you have a routine cause to drive out to the M1, under 3 miles from The Oval, or over to Leeds under 5 miles away, entire weeks go by without a long steady run. Geography is against you.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. Power is capped, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter needs can no longer complete — which is the real catch, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands right up to a limit. The filter requires cleaning rather than road work once the motor has dropped into limp mode.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned in The Oval
On your front, in a work car park, any place the motor can sit for a few hours: the job happens with the filter still fitted on, which is the detail most owners do not expect.
Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That means a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts.
After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access port, opening out inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration will not. Badly clogged filters sometimes require a second pass.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean freed. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of The Oval, with you present, or it runs where the vehicle stands and the running data is verified after.
A second scan confirms the change, puts out the warning light and notes anything still open. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so you end up with the before and after figures on record.
The faults a DPF clean cannot answer
One thing is what a clean cures — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
- the EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system problem
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting in the first place
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first check's purpose. Where one of those is the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Hollowing the filter out is not a remedy: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is treated in place and put back into use. Two more worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to around The Oval
A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. Cleaning itself starts from £299.
The figure is settled by the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful. What you own and where you are both move it: The Oval itself, across at Parklands, or farther out across the LS postcode area.
A clean that will not help is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. Because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge nonetheless applies.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to The Oval.
Really good service. Everything explained clearly. Pointed out some other engine issues to check out which was very helpful. Expensive compared to other companies but with the 28 day warranty I felt happy to pay to get the best service. Couldn't fault the engineer he was excellent.
Arrived at my address and carried out all work needed in a very professional manner, informing me at every stage what he was doing, he respected my property and vehicle all the way through, would highly recommended this employee and this company, kind regards Alan and Susan Rhodes.
Very happy with the service that was provided! Nic was efficient and knowledgeable. He seemed very honest and I am back motoring again after 75% blockage! Thank you!!
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around The Oval
Whatever it is — car, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the one call-out service holds, and the filter never quits it.
The Oval is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are out on York Road nearly every week, and the same run picks up Parklands, Brianside and the places out past Scholes. Phone anyway from farther out through West Yorkshire. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the date you are given hangs on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Questions The Oval drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- If you spot it in time, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Asda and back will not be enough; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily loaded.
- What does it run to in The Oval?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the scan and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the figure.
- Have I got to be around?
- A spot for the vehicle to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive instead.
- How soon can someone come to The Oval?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the LS area.
- The filter — does it come away from the motor?
- Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- The light comes back — then what?
- An engineer comes back out to The Oval — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
