The Mews, Greater London: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The motor stays put — on-site DPF cleaning goes to it. Your car will not be taken off and the filter doesn't come off. A fitter arrives at your door in The Mews, treats the diesel particulate filter on the car and carries out a DPF regeneration.
Nobody travels until the number is agreed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
If the light is on already and the car is down on power, this page is yours. That is how most owners get to us.
Your DPF light is lit — what next?
It might not be the unit whatsoever. That is the main thing. A check happens before the work, because that same dashboard light has a number of candidate faults behind it.
It counts what you manage with the motor between now and the appointment.
- Worth a shot before you book anything: amber light, vehicle driving fine, just one even run, no cost.
- Once the car is in limp mode, driving will not reach it. The window has gone.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop booking long drives and ring.
Signs the motor has been sending you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for weeks before it shows:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
- worse fuel use
- stop/start without a word giving up
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under the throttle
Alone, none of that is evidence. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is showing too.
Choked diesel particulate filters round The Mews, and the why
Being a small village, The Mews throws up just the use a DPF copes with worst. A regeneration takes time and heat, and gets neither: not on the school run to Anglo Portuguese School of London, not on Marcus Terrace at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Sainsbury's, and not on the dash to Wandsworth Town. Instead of clearing, the soot load collects.
The M4 stands under 5 miles from The Mews, Westminster under 5 miles out, and unless something pulls you out that way routinely, whole weeks go by without the sustained run that clears a DPF. Geography does not help.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it
What limp mode comes down to is the motor protecting itself. Output is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer complete — which is the entire problem, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
So the common advice to take it up the motorway is sound advice, right until it stops being. Past that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter needs cleaning.
On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round The Mews
On your front, in a work car park, wherever the motor can sit for a few hours: the job is done with the filter even now fitted on, which is the detail most drivers do not anticipate.
The ECU is taken first, reporting soot load by percent and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensor readings, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.
Then the clean. A solution is fed in through the access port on that motor and spreads inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Where the filter is severely blocked, expect a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. Stay with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of The Mews. Leave it and the regeneration goes statically, with live data read once it is done.
Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, clears the light and notes whatever is still open.
The problems a DPF clean cannot cure
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not touch:
- the wrong signal from a pressure or temperature sensor
- EGR valves that jam open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter
Finding that out is the first check's job. You are let know before the work starts, not after you have handed over, if it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
DPF cleaning costs around The Mews
A call-out charge holds whatever the outcome, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice given. The clean itself opens from £299.
Once we know what you own, and about what the filter will need, the number gets agreed by phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. The car changes it, and so does the postcode — The Mews, Wandsworth, or a spot otherwise out in the SW postcode area.
You are not billed for treatment that the diagnostic says will not work. What still stands is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the scan was carried out and the advice was given.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to The Mews.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach round The Mews
Whatever it is — private car, light van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the same on-site service applies, and the filter never departs it.
The Mews is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are along Marcus Terrace nearly every week, and the same run takes in Wandsworth, Southfields and the places out past Richmond. Ring anyway from farther out across Greater London. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you are offered comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

What The Mews drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early enough and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes flat to Sainsbury's and back.
- Does the visit last long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Price in The Mews — what is it?
- Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the scan and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Is it necessary for me to be there?
- Somewhere for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Travel along if you like, and the regeneration is done as a supervised drive.
- Can someone get to The Mews soon?
- That depends on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is open across the SW area.
- Does the filter leave the vehicle?
- Cleaned where it sits, on this service, so no. And neither does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- An engineer comes back out to The Mews — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
