The Hundred, Herefordshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF happens at the motor, not at a body shop. A technician arrives at your address over in The Hundred, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Allow for the visit running typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, settled over the phone before anyone leaves.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the motor low on power. That is the situation this page is aimed at.
Your DPF light is lit — what then?
Not the unit, always. Opening thing to get straight. A number of faults put the same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit starts with a check rather than with a clean.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- A long steady run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the car drives normally. Costs nothing at all, so try that before calling.
- That window has closed once the motor has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.
- Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
The motor has been telling you already
Last news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for a while before it appears:
- less power, especially climbing uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- worse fuel consumption
- the stop/start silently giving up
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box
That is not conclusive on its own. The light beside them points at a blocked filter.
Blocked diesel particulate filters round The Hundred, and the cause
The Hundred is a rural hamlet, and the driving that belongs to one is the poorest kind for a DPF. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and has not much: not on the school run to Kimbolton St James CofE Primary School, not on Hundred Lane at the morning rush, not on ten minutes to Four Seasons, and not on the run to Leominster. Instead of burning away, the unburnt soot collects.
Where you sit does not assist either. The M5 is under 25 miles from The Hundred and Hereford is under 15 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, whole weeks pass without the sustained run that might empty the filter on its own.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode means. With pulling power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants will not run at all. That counts, because starting one is just what a sustained run does.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — until the point it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: cleaning is what will help, not more driving.
The motor stays put for on-site DPF cleaning round The Hundred
Most drivers do not anticipate this detail: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF even now bolted to the car — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a few hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a look over of sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.
Then comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access port, spreading inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is severely clogged, allow for a second pass.
What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. Ride along with the motor and it is done as a monitored drive out of The Hundred. Park it and the regeneration goes in place, with running data verified once it is done.
Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second diagnostic is what confirms the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still open.
Where a clean is not the answer
One thing is what a clean fixes — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
- the EGR valve jammed open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
The first scan is there for precisely that. You are told before any work begins, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is replaced: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
The figure of DPF cleaning in The Hundred
Each visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, doing the check and passing on the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
No single flat rate would be truthful, so the number is settled on the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The place you are matters as much as what you drive: The Hundred itself, Ashton close by, or otherwise out within the HR postcode area.
A clean that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. Because the visit, the check and the advice have been done, the call-out charge even so applies.
If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer heads back out to The Hundred — the clean includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Had one of there reps come to my address and work on my car was very helpful and sorted the problem would recommend them to anyone.
Ashley came out to my address to clean my dpf filter, he was polite and courteous all the time.
You have all been amazing, service given sure deserves a good 5 star thank you all very much happy Christmas.
What we clean, and how far we travel near The Hundred
Cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.
The same round that has technicians on Hundred Lane most weeks takes in The Hundred, Ashton, Kimbolton and the spots beyond Stockton. Further out across Herefordshire is still worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning across The Hundred
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- It might, provided you spot it early enough and limp mode has not begun. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not five minutes or so to Four Seasons and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Across The Hundred, what does it cost?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why pricing happens by phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- Space for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. Come along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a monitored drive.
- Coming to The Hundred — how soon?
- That depends on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the HR area has free.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- Not on the on-site service — it is cleaned where it sits. Lifting a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything something we do either way.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to The Hundred.
