A blocked DPF is what cleaning answers. It is not the answer to all of it that shows the same light on a dashboard, and the diagnostic is what tells the two apart before anything is touched.
Treatment will not cure:
- The vehicle being told there is a blockage when there is not one
- An EGR valve held open
- Urea system failures
- Plugs or injectors preventing a regeneration running at all
- Oil working into the unit from a faulty turbo
Where any of those is found to be the fault, we say so at the outset rather than after you have handed over.
Two more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is cleaned in place and put back to work.

Where a unit has only started to fill, a long run regularly shifts it with nobody working on it. Let it under 15 miles out of The Heugh to the M8 and sit at it there, or take the long way into Edinburgh rather than ten more minutes to Tranent.
