Mobile DPF Cleaning across The Hacket, Gloucestershire

The car sits put — on-site DPF cleaning comes to it. An engineer comes at your door across The Hacket, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.

The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the figure is settled over the phone before anyone travels.

Most owners find us with the light on already, and the motor short of power. That is the position this page is written for.

DPF light on? What happens next

The DPF is not automatically what is wrong, and that comes first. A number of faults put the identical light on the identical panel, which is why a visit begins with a scan rather than with treatment.

The motoring you manage in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.

  • Motor even now driving as normal on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs nothing and frequently sorts the filter without assistance.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then shut.
  • Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone past the long-run stage.

Signs the car has been showing you

Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for a while before it shows:

  • less power, particularly climbing uphill
  • revs that will not rise the way they always did
  • worse fuel consumption
  • the stop/start silently bowing out
  • a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration

None of that is conclusive on its own. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.

Clogged diesel particulate filters near The Hacket, and the reason

For a DPF, the worst motoring is the kind you find in a rural hamlet such as The Hacket. Look at a normal week: Crossways Junior School and home again, Horse Leaze at a halt before half nine, a short hop to Aldi, a run to Yate. Nothing there goes on long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot collects.

The M5 lies under a mile from The Hacket, Bristol under 15 miles off, and unless something pulls you out that way often, full weeks pass without the long unbroken run that clears a DPF. Geography does not assist.

Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. A long drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode prevents: power held down, revs held down, no regeneration available.

Running it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it works as far as a point. Once the car is in limp mode you are beyond that point, and the filter requires treatment rather than driving.

The clogged filter cleaned after a warning light across The Hacket, Gloucestershire

Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands in The Hacket

Most people do not expect this detail: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF yet fixed to the car — on your front, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can sit for a while.

Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That requires a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts.

Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the vehicle's own access point, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. Heavily loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.

A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of The Hacket; if not, on the spot where the car waits, with the running data read afterwards.

Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, clearing the warning light and logging anything still logged. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.

Where a clean is not the solution

A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not help:

  • the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
  • a stuck-open EGR valve
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration completing at all
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are told before any work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is cleaned where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.

What DPF cleaning runs to in The Hacket

Each visit takes a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, carrying out the scan and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it by phone, once the car and its expected needs are established. Two things shift it: what you run, and where you are — The Hacket itself, over at Crossways, or further out across the BS postcode area.

Where the scan says treatment will not do it, you are not billed for cleaning. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done, the call-out charge still holds.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer returns to The Hacket.

Call-out DPF cleaning at a vehicle in The Hacket

Very professional company, i would highly recommend, the DPF tech who came out went above and beyond in fixing a few problems that he didn't need to making sure the trucks filter worked upon completion.

Philip B.

Liam did a great job and I was very happy with the level of service and professionalism. Thanks for being so flexible in your times to fix the dpf.

Oliver A.

Very friendly polite operative who arrived on time messaged me to say he was here. Told me there wasn't a fault with the DPF so there would be no charge gave me a few suggestions on what it might be so will check those out. Thanks Chris.

What we clean, and how far we reach round The Hacket

A single on-site service takes in cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.

The same trip that keeps engineers on Horse Leaze most weeks picks up The Hacket, Crossways, Gillingstool and the places beyond Milbury Heath. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so ring even from farther out through Gloucestershire.

Questions The Hacket drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run clear it?
Sometimes, if you catch it early enough and the car has not fallen into limp mode. That calls for motorway speed for a long run, rather than a quick trip to Aldi.
Does the visit last long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely loaded filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
What does it come to in The Hacket?
It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we quote on the phone.
Do I have to be there?
No. The vehicle requires space to wait for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be run as a supervised drive instead.
When can someone travel to The Hacket?
Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the BS area.
Does the filter leave the car?
It is treated where it sits, on the mobile service. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything a job we do either way.
What if the light reappears?
An engineer heads back out to The Hacket — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
