The Groves, Shropshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Cleaning the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a garage. The technician turns up at your door in The Groves and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is treated still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you arrived with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is agreed on the phone before anyone travels.

If the light is on already and the motor is down on power, this page is yours. That is how most people get to us.

DPF light on? What happens next

Not the unit, always. Opening thing to get straight. A number of faults put the identical light on the very same panel, which is why a visit starts with a diagnostic rather than with treatment.

How the car is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one steady run, no cost.
  • Vehicle already gone into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not touch it now.
  • Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.

Before the light, what the motor was showing you

Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for a while before it arrives:

  • pulling uphill, the power tails off
  • an engine whose revs will not climb as they should
  • fuel use that is worse than it used to be
  • a stop/start that has silently packed in
  • diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox

None of that is conclusive on its own. The light with them points at a blocked filter.

Why diesel particulate filters clog around The Groves

The day-to-day driving that belongs to a residential suburb like The Groves is the poorest kind for a DPF. A regeneration needs time and heat, and sees none: not on the school run to St Marys CofE Primary School, not on Wytheford Road at the morning rush, not on five minutes to The Co-operative Food, and not on the run to Yorton. What should clear stays put.

Unless you have a regular reason to get out to the M54, under 10 miles from The Groves, or over to Wrexham under 25 miles away, whole weeks slip past without a long unbroken run. Geography is unhelpful.

The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer complete

What limp mode means is the motor protecting itself. Power is capped, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter needs can not run — which is the entire problem, because a long drive works by setting off that regeneration.

The usual advice — take it up the motorway — is good, up until it is not. In limp mode you are past that stage: treatment is what will help, not more driving.

Where the car stands is where the DPF is done across The Groves

Most drivers do not expect this part: the filter stays on. The job is done with the DPF yet bolted to the motor — on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can wait for a few hours.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That requires a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related hardware.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid goes in through the access point on that vehicle and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of The Groves, with you along, or it is done where the vehicle sits and the live data is checked afterwards.

Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what verifies the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still showing.

The faults a DPF clean cannot cure

Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • a temperature or pressure sensor flagging a blockage that is not there
  • EGR valves that hang open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration starting in the first place
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

That is what the first check is for. You are warned before the work begins, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.

Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the phrase people search for, though nothing is exchanged — your own filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

Prices for DPF cleaning across The Groves

Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

Not one flat rate would be straight, so the price is settled over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The motor moves it, and so does the location — The Groves, Shawbury, or anywhere otherwise out in the SY postcode area.

Cleaning that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. Because the visit, the check and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless applies.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer returns to The Groves.

Great and speedy service. DPF now completely clean and running smooth. Liam who did the clean was friendly, and very informative of the process. Would recommend these guys.

I can sing nothing but praise for DPF fixer from first initial contacted on Tuesday speaking to Christine organising the appointment to Liam coming out today to sort my daughters car out. The service these gentlemen provided is excellent, definitely recommend.

Vehicles we clean, and where we get to near The Groves

The filter is cleaned where it sits on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.

The Groves is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are out on Wytheford Road week in week out, and the same run takes in Shawbury, Edgebolton and the spots out past Stanton upon Hine Heath. Coverage runs UK-wide, so further out across Shropshire is even so worth a phone call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

A word on The Groves

The Groves is also close to other nearby places such as Little Wytheford, and is situated approximately 138.7 miles from London.

Things The Groves drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I just take it for a long drive?
If you spot it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it wants — not five minutes or so to The Co-operative Food and back.
How long does the visit run?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which runs on.
Across The Groves, what does it cost?
Starting from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
Do I have to be there?
No. The motor wants space to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
Getting to The Groves — how soon?
That depends on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is available across the SY area.
Will the filter be removed?
It is done where it stands, on the call-out service. We never take filters off or put them back on, in either direction.
The light comes back — then what?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to The Groves.
