The Glutt, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The motor remains where it is — mobile DPF cleaning goes to it. A fitter comes at your door over in The Glutt, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody leaves until the number is agreed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
If the light is on already and the motor is short of power, this page is the right one. That is how most people arrive here.
DPF light on? What to do
It could not be the unit in the end. That is the main thing. Several faults put the very same light on the identical dashboard, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with a clean.
It counts what you get with the car between now and the booking.
- Amber light, motor yet driving normally — a long even run can even now shift it on its own. Costs zero, and worth trying before you book anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not touch it. The window has shut.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under the throttle, is the stage to stop planning long drives and book it in.
What the vehicle has been warning you
Late news, the light. The symptoms generally build for a while before it arrives:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- you see the revs never reach where they once went
- the fuel use is down
- stop/start without a word bowing out
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration
That is not evidence alone. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is there too.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near The Glutt
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the sort you meet across an area such as The Glutt. Think about a normal week: the local primary school and home again, A897 at a crawl before half nine, a five-minute run to the local shops, a hop to Altnabreac. Nothing there goes on long enough or is hot enough to see through a regeneration. What should clear stays put.
Neither is far from The Glutt: over 50 miles to the M90, over 50 miles to Inverness. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would scour a filter simply never happens.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. With power limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants will not happen at all. That counts, because triggering one is just what a long run does.
The common advice — get it up the motorway — is sound, until it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that line, and the filter wants a clean rather than driving.
DPF cleaning at the car round The Glutt
On your front, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter yet fixed on, which is the part most people do not anticipate.
The ECU is interrogated first, reporting soot load by percent and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are freed next, by a cleaning solution passed through the entry point on that motor, which expands inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes needed on severely blocked filters.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. Ride along with the motor and it is done as a monitored drive out of The Glutt. Drop it and the regeneration is done statically, with running data read once it is done.
Finally the check runs again — the change proven, the light reset, anything still open written down. Both read-outs arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.
Where treatment is not the solution
Cleaning answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor flagging a block that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that hardly ever completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
The first diagnostic is there for exactly that. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before the work gets going, not after handing over anything.
A couple more worth knowing. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is cleared in place and put back into use.
What DPF cleaning comes to across The Glutt
The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.
No flat rate would be honest, so the number is agreed on the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. Whereabouts you are tells as much as what you drive: The Glutt itself, Lochside next door, or otherwise out in the KW postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. What nonetheless applies is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the check was carried out and the advice was offered.
If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer travels back out to The Glutt — the work comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
5 star service from DPF Fixer. Liam the engineer who attended my home was very pleasant, professional and went through the entire process in detail. He also helped resolve the problems, I had with my vehicle. Highly recommended to anyone who needs a DPF cleaning service at home.
Brilliant company! Highly recommend! came out to us next day! Paid an upfront fee over the phone which was reasonable and they didn't even charge us for the outstanding balance due to a damage DPF. Such lovely people, honest, reliable, trustworthy professional company would definitely use/recommend. Thanks again Guys.
Thank you Igor for resolving the dpf issue with my vw cc on 15.7.24. Kudos to the back office team as well for answering my questions beforehand. Vroom, vroom!
Where we get to near The Glutt, and what we clean
The filter is done where it sits on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is usually someone on A897, so The Glutt hardly ever means a detour, and Lochside, Kinbrace and the villages past Balnabruich are on the way. Coverage is UK-wide, so farther out around Highland is even so worth a phone call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Common questions on DPF cleaning around The Glutt
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Early enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That requires motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a short trip to the local shops.
- Does the visit last long?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — badly clogged filters sometimes require a second pass, which lengthens it.
- Around The Glutt, what does it come to?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it is done by phone.
- Is it essential for me to be present?
- You need not stand with it — the vehicle simply requires space to wait for a couple of hours. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
- How soon can someone come to The Glutt?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is typical. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the KW area has open.
- Does the filter come away from the motor?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We never take filters off or put them back on, in either direction.
- What if the light returns?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to The Glutt.
