Mobile DPF Cleaning for The Forge, Herefordshire
The car stays in place — call-out DPF cleaning goes to it. An engineer arrives at your door in The Forge, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the number is fixed by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
If the light is already on and the motor is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most people arrive here.
What to try when the DPF light shows
The DPF is not always what is to blame, and that comes first. A diagnostic goes before the work, because that same dash light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
The driving you get in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- A long even run may yet manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives as normal. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before booking.
- Motor already gone into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not shift it now.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you
By the time the light shows, things have generally been going wrong for weeks. It is last news:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they once went
- worse fuel economy
- stop/start quietly packing in
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. The light beside them indicates a full filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block near The Forge
The Forge is a rural hamlet, and the driving that comes with one is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to Pembridge CofE Primary School, Mill Lane at a crawl at the morning rush, a few minutes to Nisa, the hop to Knighton — none of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn off collects instead.
The map does not assist either. The M50 is under 50 miles from The Forge and Hereford is under 25 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way often, weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that could empty the filter alone.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. The real problem is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.
So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until the day it is not. The far side of that stage — limp mode — driving will not be enough, and the filter needs a clean.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is cleaned round The Forge
Most owners do not see coming this part: the filter remains. The job takes place with the DPF yet bolted to the vehicle — on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a few hours.
First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensors, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it taken before any of it is cleaned.
After that comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access port, spreading inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is severely blocked, allow for a second pass.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean lifted. Stay with the car and it becomes a monitored drive out of The Forge. Park it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with real-time data verified once it is done.
A second check proves the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still open. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
The faults a DPF clean cannot answer
Treatment answers one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- temperature or pressure sensors showing a restriction that is not there
- EGR valves that stick open
- an AdBlue system failure
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration starting at all
- oil coming through the filter from a worn turbo
Which is why the diagnostic happens first. You are let know before the work begins, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.
Cutting the filter out is not a fix: without a working DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is exchanged — your own filter is treated in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning costs in The Forge
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.
No single flat rate would be truthful, so the price is fixed on the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you drive and where you are both shift it: The Forge itself, across at Cabal, or farther out in the HR postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
If the light returns inside that time, an engineer travels back out to The Forge — the job carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
Nic turned up ran through everything, explained very well and carried out the job professionally, very very pleased with what he has done and really nice chap to talk too of if I need anything else I'll 100% be in touch thanks to him. John.
Perfect service. I would recommend DPF Fixer to anyone. Turned up on time. Did a good job and a sensible price.
Came within the time specified. Done the job as requested and provided much needed advice on what the car needs going forward. I will definitely recommend to anyone.
Where we reach around The Forge, and what we clean
The one mobile service takes in cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
The same round that has engineers on Mill Lane most weeks picks up The Forge, Cabal, Lewis Wych and the spots beyond Titley. Call anyway from even further out through Herefordshire. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the day you are offered comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things The Forge drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- It can, provided you catch it early and limp mode has not set in. Fifteen minutes to Nisa and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
- The visit runs how long?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly clogged.
- In The Forge, what does it run to?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the scan and the advice; the clean itself starts from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.
- Is it essential for me to be there?
- The car wants a spot for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Come along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a supervised drive.
- Getting to The Forge — how soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is free across the HR area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We never get filters off or fit them back on, either way.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to The Forge.
