Mobile DPF Cleaning in The Edge, Greater Manchester

On-site DPF cleaning comes to the motor. The technician turns up at your address over in The Edge and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared fitted to the motor, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.

Written for the situation most callers are in: the light showing, the motor starved for power, and the job still to fix.

The DPF light is on. What next?

Not the unit, necessarily. Main thing to note. A check happens before the work, because that same dash light has plenty of likely faults behind it.

The use you manage in the meantime counts. That is the second thing.

  • Worth a go before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving as normal, just one even run, no charge.
  • A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
  • Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.

What the vehicle has been telling you

Symptoms have usually been building for some time before the light ever arrives. Last news, in other words:

  • tailing off on power, particularly uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not rise as before
  • worse fuel use
  • the stop/start quietly giving up
  • the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you press on

None of that is proof on its own. The light alongside them points at a loaded filter.

Clogged diesel particulate filters round The Edge, and the reason

The Edge is a residential suburb, and the motoring that comes with one is the worst type for a DPF. A regeneration needs time and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to St Margaret's CofE Junior Infant and Nursery School, not on Vicarage Street at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Asda, and not on the run to Moston. Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot banks up.

Neither is a long way from The Edge: under a mile to the A62, under 10 miles to Manchester. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would empty a filter hardly ever comes.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer run

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. A long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.

The common advice — get it up the motorway — is sensible, up until it is not. The filter requires treatment rather than driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.

DPF cleaning at the motor in The Edge

On your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can wait for a while: the job happens with the filter yet fitted on, which is the detail most owners do not see coming.

Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That requires a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts.

A cleaning fluid then is fed in through the access point on that vehicle, spreading inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Where the filter is severely blocked, allow for a second pass.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. That is a monitored drive out of The Edge if you are there, or a static regeneration where the vehicle waits, with the live data read after.

A second diagnostic confirms the change, puts out the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both reports are emailed, so you keep the before and after figures recorded.

Where cleaning is not the solution

A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not reach:

  • temperature or pressure sensors showing a block that is not there
  • the EGR valve held open
  • a problem in the AdBlue system
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration running in the first place
  • oil working through the filter from a worn turbo

The first diagnostic is there for just that. Where it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have settled up a penny.

DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is swapped: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth bearing in mind.

DPF cleaning costs in The Edge

Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

Once we have what you run, and about what the filter will want, the price gets settled over phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. What you drive and where you are both change it: The Edge itself, across at Hollinwood, or otherwise out across the OL postcode area.

You are not asked to pay for treatment that the scan says will not help. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the check was carried out and the advice was passed on.

The clean carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to The Edge if the light reappears inside that time.

Great job from the Kieran did the job really well thank you for the work would use them again when I get the problem thank you Paul.

Paul D.

Really impressed with this! Very easy to arrange, really helpful chap called Andras who carried out the clean and diagnostics, and much much cheaper than replacing the filter so saved me a lot of money. Highly recommended.

Nicholas S.

Needed the van urgently for work, they came first thing the next day, ran a full test before and found it didn't need a clean but was the temp sensors that have failed, gave some good advise and left. Quick, pleasant and honest to deal with.

Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around The Edge

A single on-site service takes in cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.

Technicians are along Vicarage Street nearly every week, so The Edge is rarely a special trip, and the same run takes in Hollinwood, Moss Grove and the spots out past Woodhouses. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so farther out around Greater Manchester is nonetheless worth a call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Things The Edge drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
If you catch it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Asda and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
The visit lasts how long?
Expect typically around 2 hours — badly clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
Price around The Edge — what is it?
The call-out charge covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; cleaning itself starts from £299. The vehicle and your address both change the price, so we settle it on the phone.
Must I be around in person?
No. The vehicle wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
When can someone come to The Edge?
That hangs on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is available across the OL area.
Does the filter come away from the motor?
Not on the call-out service — it is done where it sits. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
Suppose the light comes back?
Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to The Edge.
