Mobile DPF Cleaning around The Braids and City of Edinburgh

On-site DPF cleaning travels to the car. A fitter turns up at your door across The Braids, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.

The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is settled by the phone before anyone travels.

Most owners find us with the light on already, and the car down on power. That is exactly what this page is meant for.

DPF light on? What happens next

Not the filter, always. Main thing to say. A number of faults put the very same light on the same dash, which is why a visit starts with a check rather than with a clean.

It tells what you manage with the car between now and the visit.

  • Amber light, motor even now driving as normal — a long steady run can still shift it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the interior reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

Before the light, what the car was warning you

The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been mounting for some time:

  • dropping away on power, especially uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not climb as before
  • the fuel consumption is poorer
  • the stop/start without a word giving up
  • diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears

Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. The light beside them indicates a full filter.

Why diesel particulate filters choke near The Braids

For a DPF, the worst motoring is the type you meet across a residential suburb such as The Braids. Not one bit of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Braid Farm Road crawling at the morning rush, ten minutes to M&S Foodhall, the hop to Slateford. What should burn away stays put.

Except when you have a routine reason to drive out to the M8, under 5 miles from The Braids, or across to Edinburgh under 3 miles away, weeks slip past without a sustained drive. Geography is no help.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it

It is self-protection: that is all limp mode is. With pulling power limited and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants cannot happen at all. That tells, because setting off one is exactly what a sustained run does.

Sensible advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. The far side of that stage — limp mode — driving will not do it, and the filter needs treatment.

Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands round The Braids

On your front, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can stand for a few hours: the job happens with the filter still fixed on, which is the bit most owners do not see coming.

The ECU is read first, showing soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and associated components, so nothing is started while another fault is still in play.

A solution then is fed in through the access point on that car, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes required on badly blocked filters.

What the clean has freed is then cleared by a regeneration. Ride along with the car and it becomes a monitored drive out of The Braids. Park it and the regeneration runs in place, with real-time data read once it is done.

Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second scan is what verifies the change, resets the light and logs whatever is still outstanding.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

Only one fault is answered by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:

  • pressure sensors showing a restriction that is not there
  • an EGR valve held open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running whatsoever
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

Finding that out is the first scan's purpose. Proving to be one of them means learning it before work gets going, not after handing over anything.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets searched for as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into service.

DPF cleaning prices around The Braids

Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We agree it over phone, once the motor and its expected needs are established. The car changes it, and so does the address — The Braids, Greenbank, or somewhere otherwise out in the EH postcode area.

If the diagnostic writes cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still stands.

If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer heads back out to The Braids — the clean includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

The vehicles we clean and the area we reach around The Braids

A single on-site service takes in cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than carried anywhere.

The same trip that puts engineers on Braid Farm Road most weeks picks up The Braids, Greenbank, Morningside and the villages beyond Loanhead. It is the diary, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone anyway from further out across City of Edinburgh.

Common questions on DPF cleaning across The Braids

Does a long run clear it?
It might, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not arrived. That means motorway speed for a sustained spell, rather than a quick trip to M&S Foodhall.
Roughly how long does it take?
It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can take a second clean, which adds to that.
How much does it run to in The Braids?
The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; treatment itself starts from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the price.
Do I have to be around?
No. The motor wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
Can someone get to The Braids soon?
You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the calendar. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is open across the EH area.
The filter — does it come off the motor?
It is done where it stands, on the call-out service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
And if the light comes back?
Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to The Braids.
