Mobile DPF Cleaner

The Borough, Dorset: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With mobile DPF cleaning, we travel to the vehicle. A fitter turns up at your address across The Borough, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the car, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the number is fixed on the phone before anyone sets off.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the motor short of power. That is the situation this page is written for.

DPF light on? What happens next

It might not be the filter in the end. That is the main thing. That light can follow several faults, not just one, so the visit begins with a scan and not with cleaning.

Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.

  • Car yet driving fine on an amber light — attempt a long constant run first. It costs zero and often shifts the filter without help.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has now shut.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

What the car has been showing you

The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been growing for a while:

  • falling off on power, particularly uphill
  • the revs no longer pull the way they always did
  • fuel economy going worse
  • a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
  • diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox

That is not evidence by itself. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is on as well.

The explanation diesel particulate filters block round The Borough

Being a rural hamlet, The Borough generates exactly the use a DPF manages worst. Look at a typical week: All Saints Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School and home, Cornford Hill at a standstill before half nine, a short hop to Dike & Son, a run to Sherborne. Nothing there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot builds up.

Unless you have a regular reason to head out to the M5, under 50 miles from The Borough, or across to Wells under 25 miles away, whole weeks slip past without a long unbroken drive. Geography is unhelpful.

Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration

The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. The entire problem is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is limited.

Good advice, that motorway run — up until the moment it is not. The filter needs a clean rather than driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.

DPF cleaning at the car in The Borough

Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for two hours or so.

First a diagnostic. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it taken before a thing is started.

A cleaning solution then goes in through the access point on that car, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Where the filter is badly clogged, expect a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of The Borough; if not, statically where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data checked once done.

Finally the check runs again — the change confirmed, the light reset, anything still outstanding logged. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.

What a DPF clean will not cure

A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not reach:

  • sensors, pressure, flagging a blockage that is not real
  • EGR valves that jam open
  • AdBlue system failures
  • a regeneration that never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

Which is why the scan happens first. You are warned before all work begins, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.

Two things more worth knowing. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.

The figure for DPF cleaning across The Borough

A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. The clean itself begins from £299.

Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We agree it over phone, once the car and its likely needs are known. What you drive and where you are both shift it: The Borough itself, across at Hill Street, or farther out within the DT postcode area.

You are not billed for a clean that the diagnostic says will not do it. What still stands is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was carried out and the advice was offered.

If the light returns inside that period, an engineer heads back out to The Borough — the clean carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

Great service from Darren. He explained everything this he was doing and answered questions with confidence. Would use them again if I have any troubles again.

James B.

Incredibly prompt arrival, the gentleman didn't want a brew at all he just got on with the job in hand. I was impressed with the lack of mess left behind, Definitely recommend them.

Ian R.

Atilla went out of his way to diagnose and fix my recurring Dpf issues. Explained everything at fault and remedies, as well as having a chat despite it being late. What a nice guy he was, more than happy with the service DPF Fixers provide.

Vehicles we clean, and where we get to near The Borough

Whatever it is — private car, light van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the same mobile service holds, and the filter never departs it.

The Borough is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are working Cornford Hill week in week out, and the same run picks up Hill Street, Bishops Caundle and the places out past Holwell. Phone anyway from even further out through Dorset. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the day you are given hangs on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning around The Borough

Does a long run clear it?
Soon enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not ten minutes flat to Dike & Son and back.
How long does the visit run?
Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
Around The Borough, what does it run to?
Starting from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the check and advice on what to do next. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you sit both move the number.
Do I have to be present?
Space for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Travel along if you would rather, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
Coming to The Borough — how soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is available across the DT area.
Does the filter leave the motor?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Nor does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
And if the light reappears?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to The Borough.
